Thumbs up Looking for information

Hi

MY name is JP and I have been searching the net for information on a U-12 Boat whatch that my father bought at an auction; I have found that U boat 12 was commissioned in 30 Sep, 1935 and that the commanding officer, Kptlt. Dietrich von der Ropp, was washed ashore on the French coast near Dunkirk on 29 Oct, 1939.

That's all I have been able to find I would like to post pictures of the watch for members to view, but not sure how ???

Thank you in advance,

JP

The U-12 was a Type IIB.It was oredered on 20 Jul, 1934, and launched on 11 Sep, 1935.It had the following commanders: Werner von Schmidt( 30 Sep, 1935 - 1 Oct, 1937 ) ; Hans Pauckstadt(Dec, 1936 - 1 Oct, 1937) ; Dietrich von der Ropp (1 Oct, 1937 - 8 Oct, 1939).
U-12 didn't see too much action, and has no ships sunk, since it was destroyed by a mine on 8 Oct 1939.Still, the U-12 performed 2 patrol missions: 25.08.1939 - 09.09.1939, under the command of Dietrich von der Ropp on 25th Aug 1939 for operations in the North Sea;
23.09.1939 - 08.10.1939, under the command of Dietrich von der Ropp for operations in the English Channel.Destroyed while returning home to Wilhelmshaven.
The approximate position where U 12 went down is 51°10N 01°30E.

There was another U-12 in the 1st World War, launched from its shipyard on 6 May, 1910 and commissioned into the Imperial Navy on 13 Aug, 1911. The Naval war in WWI was brought to an end with the Armistice signed on 11 Nov, 1918
