Default D-Day Beach Obstacles

I'm nearly finished with a LCVP model from Airfix, and the last parts are used to make beach obstacles. I'm familliar with 2 of the 4 types but the 2 others kept me thinking on how I need to attach them and what colour they need to be printed.

The most complicated one is the hedgehog, but I'm familliar with the shape and the color. The same with some kind of concrete pyramide (name?).

Now I haven't found ANY pictures of the 2 I'm looking for but both seem to be made from wood, but I'm not sure about 1 of them.

The first seem to be some kind of wooden bar positioned between 2 'X' also made by crossing 2 wooden bars. These are definatly wood.

Another one is a bit like the concrete pyramide but it's made out of different (wooden?) bars.

I would be very please if I could a picture of these last 2 to see how they're made and if the last one I mentioned is supposed to be wood. Thanks!

Hi Lt Pineapple,

Google is always your best friend in searching for such info. Try Atlanic Wall obstalcles. Here are some I found .

The Germans had to plan for both a high tide and low tide assault so there were obstacles designed for either case.

This link describes typical concrete barriers used by the Germans for coastal defense

Lone Sentry: Types of Concrete Antitank Obstacles (WWII U.S. Intelligence Bulletin, September 1943)

Here's a photo of several types of obstacles used along the Atlantic Wall

Here is a lengthy link to a Google Book review with Atlantic Wall Defenses:

The Atlantic Wall (1): France - Google Book Search

Here's a summary of the lack of depth in defense of the Atlantic wall:

"Although Rommel oversaw additional defensive measures, such as the placement of hedgehogs, wooden ramps and "Rommel's Asparagus", and to the flooding of areas in which suspected airborne landings might take place, the Atlantic Wall had no true depth to its defenses. An enemy force that breached the thin Atlantic Wall would face no further fortified positions of significance."

Another good link: http://everything2.com/title/the%2520Atlantic%2520Wall

Hope this helps!

I believe that the concrete pyramids are called Dragon's teeth. See
