Default I need some help!

My name is Tara Wedam. I don't know a lot about my grandfather's family. He passed away when my father was 2 and my grandmother won't tell us anything. I have talked to a few people that my grandfather knew and I have been told a few things. Bruno Wedam (my grandfather) had 2 sisters and one brother (2 of these sibling - 1 sister and the brother - who was or is working for the Switzerland Police Force - live in Switzerland). I was also told that he may have been in World War 2. I have been searching for a while but can't seem to find out if he was in World War 2. Does anyone know how I can find this out? He was born in 1924 (I believe) and he passed away in 1963 in Canada. If anyone can help with any suggestions that would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you,
Tara

Tara,

Good morning from Denver, I wanted to let you know that I've been dilligently searching for any leads to your Grandfather possibly being tied to WWII history... I found your request on ancestry, and have searched the Canadian Military records and National Archive sites with nothing found. Is there any other information you can suggest?? I just want to confirm that your Grandfather was Canadian?? there are many Canadians that peruse these forums, Macrusk (Michelle) is one of many, maybe she can help??

all the best Tara

Jem

Tara,

Have you seen this? At least the date and month of death are listed here should you wish to check newspapers for his obituary. It might just tell what branch of which country's military he served in:

VIEW - SEARCH BC ARCHIVES

If it was the Canadian military he would not show up on any of their databases which are open to the public.

If he was in the Canadian military and he has most certainly been dead over 20 years you are entitled to get access to his full service record by following the instructions here:

What to Search: Topics - Canadian Genealogy Centre - Library and Archives Canada

I've just been told by one of the analysts there that there is currently a six month backlog of requests of this kind.

Good luck with your search!

Good input alieneyes. Perhaps your information should be made a "sticky".
