Well, first of all, I'm new to the world of re-enactment.

I play airsoft in WW2 kit, or as close as I can get, and I was wondering what you guys thought of my impression.

There are obvious flaws to it, which are due to a deficit in the green stuff, for instance I can't afford Corcorans so dyed some British high legs (yes, I know).

Basically I'm looking for a bit of constructive criticism on my loadout. Bear in mind I've done all this for about £250 not including weapons.

PS: I realise that I look like a bit of a morbid tit, but I can't help that, I blame my employers.

i have a question about reinactments. do you actually fire projectiles from the guns? (like paintballs or something) and how do you know if you have been hit?

I'll try to give you an answer to your question. "Reenactment" is a many layered beast.

At "reenactments", first off, no, nothing comes out of an individuals weapon. At least, nothing is supposed to. We use blanks and blank adapters to make the "bang bang" noise, and have the brass flying in the air.

Some units have heavier weapons like mortars, bazookas, etc, or some events allow hand grenades to be thrown. In both cases just enough black powder is used to burst a case of some sort filled with "hopefully" flour, making a nice white cloud.

As for taking hits, it depends. Some events have guys running through the woods yelling "I shot you, you're dead"-silly as Hell. Most events I attend have decent quality units that play by "gentlemen's rules". If you see someone aiming at you, or you see a muzzle flash, be a man and take your hit (at this point you can ham it up and thrash around as a wounded man-which can be equally silly as Hell, fall down "dead", or somewhere in between to let your medic do his thing).

Some units beforehand "stack the deck" for their unit. For example, when weapons are inspected before an event, sometimes the inspector will take out a clip of ammo and replace it with another. The replaced one may be marked with a red dot, black dot, yellow dot, or not at all (at least that's how I've seen it done). If you pull a clip with a red dot, at the next realistic or opportune time you become wounded. Black is dead, yellow is run, and unmarked, well, do what ever.

Of course not all units or people within units do things "right". Lots of guys just come loaded down with ammo and just burn powder all day.

Some of the best events I've participated in however don't even include firing, or at least a minimum of firing. The event is basically just going out and being a GI for a weekend. Or Frontovik, or Soldat, or Tommy.

Like I said, there are many layers to "reenacting", and many different attitudes on how to do things. Like I mentioned in another post, it's all what you want to get out of the hobby.

I'm sure others will chime in on this as well.

About 6 months ago, I posted a picture of me and another reenactor where I was wearing a Gorget of the FG.

Suffice to say, I've since improved my FG impression for the sake of running events and acting "official".

William, very true about the rules, some people can be a bit dodfy with their interpretation of what 'hit' means. We have just come up with a system to be used during large section attacks whereby you nominate say 3/4 members of the section who will be hit for sure, the rest will only be hit if someone shoots them from reasonably close range and it is definate. That way it keeps the defenders happy and means that you dont get a situation whereby a 30m charge by 20 men is cut down by 4 blokes with bolt action rifles.
