Yeah, I havent been in a couple of years. This year I am going to the Twinwoods Airfield for an event there, sounds like it will be good. No aircraft but loads of living history and such. Glen Miller was stationed there.

Twinwood should be really interesting, Stefan !

Last time I was there was in 1990 ( ) when all was still derelict. The then-owner of the airfield very kindly allowed me to explore the old control tower : spooky ! I still have the photos somewhere. If you get a chance, check out ATB's 'Glenn Miller In Britain - Then & Now'.

Twinwwod, looks good just for the amount of WW2 type bands playing.

Have just seen an advert in local paper, but it is all static stuff, is this same show you guys are on about?

Two shows for the price of one thread - Legends is at Duxford ( where everything will be flying ) Twinwood is a more relaxed day out in Bedfordshire.....

Urqh, yeah, it sure is. It should be great, loads of re-enactors and such like. There should be bands there too. Are you thinking of going? If you are, keep an eye out on the Red Army stands (Second Guards stand in particular) and I will be there somewhere, come say hi. You too Martin if you are around, it sounds like being a fantastic show.

Alternatively, I will write a report on Twinwood and post it here, if you do the same for FL it will be as good as going to both

Since this is the Flying Legends and Twinwoods thread, here is the web site for an event last year at Twinwoods which has a fair deal of info on the event.

http://www.faaa.co.uk/GMfest.htm

Incidentally, watch out for this chap:

And for the Flying Legends show, here is the link:

http://duxford.iwm.org.uk/server/show/conEvent.35

Or you can click on the photo below

You know you want to go to at least one! Martin, mind if I change the name of the thread to Flying Legends and Twinwood please? Sorry for hijacking it rather but with so few Brits about its hardly worth another thread.

I do, I do - but the weather just now is looking seriously unco-operative

ps : Here's a pic of one of the 'Balbos' for which Legends is famous....

You do mind or you do want to go?

Come to Twinwood, even if the aircraft are grounded you will get to see the most authentic (i.e. wet and dirty) living historians around . Some of our fellas are going to have to go seriously above and beyond the call of duty, donating their rain capes to make tents for the display in this weather. I plan on spending Saturday digging a muddy foxhole, yes, I enjoy punishment

I don't mind and I do want to go !

Actually, this is one of those totally daft 'British Summer' weekends. We spend, what - something like ten months of the year with nothing going on anywhere 'due to the weather'.

Then, on one weekend, we have Legends, Twinwood, a giant concert at Hyde Park, the British Grand Prix and probably a dozen other things.

And it'll probably p** with rain anyway....

Just heard that a Polikarpov I-15 arrived at Duxford today and is being reassembled - and a Ju52 flew in....

Don't I know it, well, its one of those daft things about Britain, we get more rain than Borneo and then one day the sun comes out and we get a hose-pipe ban (as the man in the advert said). We go through half a year with nothing to do, get 2 weeks of good weather and then when you decide to have a BBQ it tips down with rain. It drives me nuts!

And like I said, come to Twinwood, we have Plash Palatkas (rain capes) and all kinds of fantastic kit to kepe dry . The thing is, Party in the Park will still be fantastic, the Grand Prix will be a lot more interesting, Twinwood will be fantastic for we re-enactors (soft ground and a chance to be authentically wet and muddy, its what makes the 'game' worth while), I just hope they get the kites up for flying legends.

Ahh, I remember the Spitfire 60th anniversary show, probably the best Airshow I have ever been to at Duxford!

Ahh damnit, why can't that Polikarpov be coming to Twinwood???

A very nice day at Duxford - one of the best 'Legends' I've seen.

The opening display by 10 Spitfires was gorgeous...a quick rain shower had cleaned the air; the sun shining on the aircraft with dark clouds in the background made the display look like a Nicholas Trudgian painting brought to life.

The Polikarpov was stunning, the P-51 formation was led by P-51D 'Twilight Tear' which actually flew from Duxford in WWII, there were plenty of bargains to be had on the bookstalls, and the crowd wasn't as huge as for the D-Day event which gave a much more relaxed ambience....

A great day !
