Unhappy

Hey there guys, I know it's been a while, but at least now I have both of my arms *somewhat* normal ....still quite a bit to do, but we're getting there. Anyways, while working at my new job, I've had the incredible honor of meeting and befriending a gentleman by the name of Alfred Maslankowski. He's 83 and a German WW2 vet who saw action in Belgium, France, and Italy to name a few. In our talks, he's told me that many of the German soldiers did not agree with the systematic execution of the Jews, but he and many others wanted them out of the country. I'm wondering if anyone else knows of people like this? Just by looking at Al, you would never know that he had been through so much, done so much. But it's had an astounding effect on him and in turn myself. He's told me that he has recieved 6 medals, but hasn't told me what they are. I'll be sure to let you all know as I find out, as he doesn't mind me telling anybody about this. As he put it, "I am proud to have fought for Germany, for my country and for my family" So, in turn, he welcomes questions from any of you.
Also, does anybody know where I can find information about the German units??? he's looking at trying to get in touch with people and I don't have the slightest idea where to start. Any help is greatly appreciated.

feldgrau.com used to have loads of veteran associations addresses (German). If they are not on the site anymore, try e-mailing the webmaster, Jason Pipes.

Do you know what units he was in? And from what date to what date was he in the army???

Duce, first thing is to ask the man what Division and Regiment/Battalion he was part of.
we can go from there as there are units that meet still. Few but still some do. also with the multitude of Divisional histories we maybe able to find more for him.......

infantry, mountain, Fallshirm ? as examples....
