Default There were six known, now there are only five known.

As of yesterday, America has lost another of it's WWI veterans. This WWI veteran was 109 years old and had the distinction of being the last American Female WWI vet living. All told, there are only five more (known) WWI American veterans still living. That number has shrunk from 13 down to five, in about 3 months. As of Thanksgiving 2006, that number had been around 51.

Folks, all too soon, we will be witnessing that sad event of not having anymore WWI veterans still living.

The Ladies first name is: Charlotte. Charlotte also had the distinction of meeting with the Secretary of Defense in 1916, to argur for the right for women to serve in our military.

May Charlotte, Rest in Peace.

I can't say anything for sure but, I heard that Germany lost its last WWI vet around 2 or so years ago. I also knew and corresponded (for a short time) with a WWI German vet. This man was also the last living member of Freikorps Oberland and his name is: Fridolin von Spaun.

I think about 5 years ago, Austrailia lost its last "original" ANZAC who served at Gallipoli.

About a year or so ago, I heard that there were 11 or so WWI British vets still living--their average age was 107.

Belguim and several others lost their last WWI vets at least 2 or more years ago.

We were talking about this a few days ago at the coffee shop and I was volunteered to find out. I was not looking for this info at the moment but just cruising through the forums and came upon this.
Heartfelt it is.

As far as i know we have about 4 or 5 WW1 Vets still alive in the UK , the oldest man in the country is Henry Allingham 110 years !! who served with 9 Squadron Royal Naval Air Service.

We only have one veteran of the trenches left alive, that is the famous Harry Patch 109 years, Private Henry John Patch a Lewis Gunner in 7th Battalion Duke of Cornwalls Light Infantry and veteran of the Battle of Third Ypres also known as Passchendaele.

In September 2004 Harry met German Artilleryman Charles Kuentz 107 yrs at Mount Kemmel and they shook hands together.

The last of an entire generation !!

Paul

Hi E, Paul, I think resurrecting that thread, might be a wise thing. I know we all can add many new names to that sadly, ever growing list. When I get time, i'll go back into one of my email accounts and look up where I have stored some name of RKT's and will post them here. Only thing is I don't have any date info on those Gents, just their names.
