Trinkets?
Surely this is Martin's new garden shed?

Re: Weekend in Nuremberg....
Interesting backyard implements to be sure to keep the neighbor kids out, I'm curious if Martin got to the top of one of these to view and take pics of the posted searchlight connections ? .............. if that was possible and legal

Re: Weekend in Nuremberg....
Sadly not - the barbed wire goes right around the terraces ; entry is strictly verboten.....

Re: Weekend in Nuremberg....
The doorway is a generous height ; I'd say about 2 metres, maybe 2.5. I've no idea what the holes were for and can only guess that they were for cooling/ventilation purposes.....
Here's a view of the 'end of the terrace', nearest to the Zeppelin Tribune....

Re: Weekend in Nuremberg....
As a footnote to this thread, I came across this shot of the 'Cathedral of Ice' searchlight-show at the Zeppelin Field....

Re: Weekend in Nuremberg....
That is a neat picture, almost like something you would see in Las Vegas.
My second thought was, I would hate to pay the electric bill !

Re: Weekend in Nuremberg....
Actually - I don't think it was...! Riefenstahl's famous film was made at the 1934 Reichsparteitag, when the events centred on the Luitpoldhain ( the Zeppelin Field hadn't been built ).
The lights came in '36 ( I think ), '37 and '38 and were the invention of Speer. The gigantic transformer house to drive the lights still exists ( apparently, today it houses an outlet of Burger King ! ) - I didn't have time to see it this time round.....

Re: Weekend in Nuremberg....
I thought I read somewhere that somebody wanted to make the site into a big soccer stadium, but I guess that didn't happen.
Whatever happened to the nazi/Hitler sites in Munich? The Brown House, Hitler's apartments and the pubs, etc?

Re: Weekend in Nuremberg....
Nuremberg's team has their modern stadium on part of the old site. The Brown House, Hofbrauhaus, Hitler's apartment, the Osteria restaurant etc all still exist in Munich - but the Burgerbraukeller was demolished in the 1980s.....

Re: Weekend in Nuremberg....
Cool. Thanks for the info. I haven't been to Germany since 1975 but if I ever get another chance i'm going. I think I can get a military hop over there but I don't know about getting back. I'd love to go to Munich for Oktoberfest. I need to do some research. You have triggered my imagination with your great photos.
