Lucky you . it looks like soldiers have been digging a foxhole there and forgot the shovels. They are in great condition, considreing they were buried for all these years.

that sounds good to me guys, we'll celebrate our finds!
it is amazing how some of these items remain in such good condition, for something that was buried for 60 plus years!
the shovels are great Nick!

Nice M1 Garand bayonet, found near the US shovels I posted before. Near Vossenack.

The holes in the canteen are definitely bullet holes. Note how on one side the edges are inside the flask, on the other they bend out. In one side out the other. Probably a machinegun that put three in a tight group through it. I don't think I'd have wanted to be the original owner.....

The holes are to big and from different sizes, so there had to be 3 different calibers used on that small piece! So thats why grenade scrapnell is easier to presume. Same effect but other sizes... as you can see.

And offcourse, that bayonet fits nice with my M1 Garand I have found in the Huertgenforest 2 years ago! This was my first trip to the forest, invited by a friend. In about 5 minutes I found many .30-06 clips and buttons, buckles of an ammuntion bag, and about 40 minutes later I pull this thing above the ground. My reaction was: WHOAOAAAAA!!!
1st. Inf. Division relic of the Huertgenforest!

Pictures.

Sturm, just wanted to offer a bit of 'experimental archeology' on this one. I managed to drop my feldflasche years ago, it was a reproduction one but after a couple of weeks use the weight of the water (the lock is pretty flimsy to hold 1 kg or more of water) had weaked the leather enough that the strap broke and it fell off.Talked to an ex-Bundeswehr chap who said they had the same problem with their bottles in the 50's.

Interessting ammunition find done in the Hürtgenwald region. A ditch full with a few 200 German WWI 7,92mm cartridges, some full, some empty. I can conclude they were used in WWII as well, that makes it interessting.
Just a few on pic.

Its quiet here guys.

Well... here a special find done last April 2007, on a location where the Battle of the Bulge started. Its a silver one dime, from 1939.
Lost in battle... with a few .30-06 cartridges...

Some very nice finds. I like the bottle collection a lot, the German tootpaste is great too. You could probably open a museum soon! Do you know what was in the bottles, schnapps, Eier likor?

Beer would make sense. Beer was cheap. Spirits, wine and Champagne etc. was more for officers. Eggs Liquor was popular among the Luftwaffe. They somethimes had one (when available) for an Abschuss. The white bottle with the yellow circle makes me think of a milk botlle. The smaller brown one could in fact be cough syrop. I suppose quite a few soldiers must have caught a cold in this cold forest.

The bottle with the yellow circle is about 4 cm high. Not for milk I presume.
