SOFIA, Bulgaria, April 26 (UPI) -- Bulgarian authorities say two German nationals who allegedly stole a World War II tank have been re-arrested.
Thomas Gmainer and Matheus Mayer had jumped bail last fall after they had been arrested by Bulgarian police while trying to dig up a German army tank that had been buried and used as a fixed gun position during the war.
The Sofia News Agency reported Saturday the pair had already swiped one other buried tank, presumably in order to sell it to a private collector.
The Defense Ministry said the government had requested the extradition of Gmainer and Mayer; however the decision would be up to a German court.
