Hurtgenforrest 22/05/2008
Today without my searchpal, a short trip back to the Hurtgenforrest. I was there before but now deeper into the woods.
There were a lot of Foxhole's but also people who dig here before
A lot of stuff raincoats (US). leather, morter stuff, tentsticks, and iron things
Tent ?
Altrough some nice things I found there
Lift the dot buttons, balley slots, buttons and a shell from a signal pistol (German). But I am not shure it is from that time
Much much bullits, ammo, lemon juice packs and coffee
Smal foxhole with bottel haar-plege ? (German stuf for hair-lotion)
A nice hole with some iron stuff handy tools and a nice pio
I was a litlle bit lost there in the woods and after searching for a few minutes I found my way back

I know what is Halldins biggest problem just now! That is to find someone who will let him join them in a trip to Huertgenforrest (and I think also The Falaise Gap)!!
Am I right Halldin?

Nice finds. I like the hair lotion box best because they are probably even less common than the militaria and because there is history linked to it. Luckily you found your way back !

Haha, spot on Mats.
Feels like everything I say here is "Nice finds", "Great pictures". And I really want to go, but I can't since I'm not old enough to go alone or with a pal, and my family is tired of WW2.

Good one Mats, but yes they are nice finds, I don't think we'd get to see the things that aren't worth seeing and even an empty bottle of lotion or tools is a piece of history. However I go looking for relics all the time (I posted finds on the forum just a few days ago), this is precisely why I enjoy these kind of threads, it's like comparing our treasures.

Hey podnah, how do you think I feel? Im 43, and havent been able to make it either! Only time Ive been out of the states was when I was in the service, and we pretty much just rolled around the Atlantic chasing Soviet submarines. Whats worse, is when I finally do, I probably wont be able to stay there for any ammount of time, because I'll have my wife with me!

Yeah well, being that you live in Europe, I can imagine a lot of people are tired of the subject. But dont you let that discourage you! Keep reading, keep learning, and keep telling people about it! We need people like you to keep up the memory!! Over here, (according to Ken Burns) we lose about 1000 WWII vets every day, and that 49% of all high school graduates believe that the U.S. were allies with the Germans against the Russians!

Halldin!
See what Keystone wrote! Do not get married until you have examined all of WW2!
(wouldn´t that be something for our government do make a law about?) :-)

Don't worry about mariage. My wife would never ask me to choose between her and a piece of torn iron with rust and mold. You never know what the answer could be!

LOL, yeah, maybe they ought to make that a law! I think though, that i can get around it somehow. I figure, if we do all the stuff she wants to really do, I can hit some of the major sights I want to see. Of course, if I can talk another couple into going with us, she could do everything she wanted to!
Hmmm, I think I see a new strategy developing here.......
