B-17 'Liberty Belle' arrives in UK
To the relief of enthusiasts, B-17G 'Liberty Belle' arrived safely at Prestwick, Scotland at 19:00 hrs local time yesterday evening.
This is the first leg of her European Tour 2008 ; during the next few days she will transfer to Duxford where she will be the major attraction at 'Flying Legends'.

Excellent news. I wasn't aware she was touring over Europe.

I really miss the access to warbirds in Texas. There just aren't many here in NC.

Re: B-17 'Liberty Belle' arrives in UK
It would be an amazing sight to see the Liberty Belle and Sally B flying together at Duxford next weekend.
However, on that same weekend, I too will be in the air-on my way to Florida...
If anyone on the forum is going to the Duxford Flying Legends airshow, maybe they can post some photos ?

Re: B-17 'Liberty Belle' arrives in UK
The big hope for 'Legends' is that 'Belle', 'Sally B' and 'Pink Lady' from France will all be in the air together - making it the first time that such a number of B-17s will be in the skies of East Anglia since the making of the movie 'Memphis Belle'.
However, 'Sally B' developed engine trouble some weeks ago so it's a case of wait-and-see.....

I used to attend Flying Legends religiously, tragically now I can hardly ever get time off. Shame because it would be fantastic to see a B17 flight roaring across the airfield. Have fun Martin, I'm jealous.

Re: B-17 'Liberty Belle' arrives in UK
wonder if Germany will send over it's single seat Me 262 for further entertainment as it would be something to have a fly over with both the jet ripping up the sky past the Fort for visual effect for the ground based crowds
ah well maybe something for the future

Re: B-17 'Liberty Belle' arrives in UK
Every enthusiast would love to see such a thing but apparently Civil Aviation Authority permits-to-fly for 'replica' aircraft are incredibly difficult to arrange. Not only that, but Flying Legends has a strict 'no jets' rule.
But everyone is agreed that UK airshows sadly lack 'Axis' representation ( see comments at the LEMB...).
Back on thread, 'Liberty Belle' landed safely at Duxford yesterday and is, quite literally, safely among 'friends'......
