Cool Beltring 2008 !

Well, I thought I'd kick off a new thread for the 2008 Glastonbury-with-guns fest.....just seen a sneak preview on another forum and, if anything, the lineup of armour looks even more impressive than last years'.......

Unhappy Re: Beltring 2008 !

For the first time in several years, I didn't go to Flying Legends.

Mainly because this years' entry list was of less quality than previous years, and there were no 'new' warbirds which I wanted to see. And, yes, the 'credit crunch' had its effect - Duxford is not a 'cheap day out', and neither is Beltring. It was one or the other...so it's Beltring for me !

yes had heard the Dux engagement was 35E a person, ah but I note 3 wonderful B-17's that were on line up side by side, a friend from Czech republic sent me a few, and had a marvelous time. Like with many gatherings once you attend several in a row things can get a bit tedious

enjoy Beltring as a nice and different setting

Cool Re: Beltring 2008 !

A glorious morning at Beltring today - perfect weather, dry underfoot, and a very relaxed atmosphere on the first morning of the event.

The organizers have obviously learned from last years' Irving furore ; no Irving this year and also gone are the overtly neo-fascist stalls. Plenty of great stuff on display and to buy ; here's a taster : -

A real Panzer IV...

and the 2007's Panther back again....

I loved this Opel Blitz....

But wasn't so sure about this 'Stug'....

And some action from the Arena....

And a real old veteran Churchill.....

Cool Re: Beltring 2008 !

And a few more.....

I just can't resist that Opel !

On to the stalls, and there were guns a-plenty....

But the really desirable stuff ( MP40s, MP44s, Lugers, etc ) were very scarce and in fact I didn't see a single MP44 for sale. This beast was lurking, though.....

My favourite stall every year - an English guy who lives in Finland and must have dug up half the country.

This year he had a load of Minenwerfer projectiles which had been found in woodland ; the site of a German ammunitio ndump which had been 'fired'. OK, I couldn't resist buying two ( very heavy ! ) chunks of 'Moaning Minnie' :

Look closely and you can see the Gothic script on the piece of German newspaper used to line the inside of the projectile....

Some interesting aircraft pieces, too....including a piece of Bf110....

And finally, an interesting and quite complete Bf109 canopy.....

Asking price ? £3,500.00.......

Lightbulb Re: Beltring 2008 !

Hi Erich !

The PzKw IV - long barrel....

The Panther needs much work - it's very incomplete, with no engine and partial suspension... ( maybe von Poop can fill us in further ? ).

The Bf110 part is supposedly something connected with the Mg151s....spent cartridge ports are visible, I think, which would indicate that the part is from the underside ?

The Panzerschreck ( only one I've ever seen at Beltring ) was on the stall of a German dealer who was absent when I visited - so I don't know how much he was asking ( but it wouldn't have been cheap ! ).

Default Re: Beltring 2008 !

Martin thanks for the fill-ins.

now that under nose Bf 110G fitting looks like 4 ports two smaller ones for the MG 17 and the larger for the MG 151/20 and as you say would be placed in the lower nose area.

the Panzerschreck looks the way it is sitting on the metal box support that there is no leather carrying strap and the thing is only a tube without the cocking/trigger mechanism and it's supporting - wood and metal box like support ?? ............. I'll give him $ 5.00 US

This may be an early model Ausf G but looks kinda 'funky'. Do you have any side shots?

Oooh, I'm excited now... Going down tomorrow.
I know the 'Stug' well, I believe it's one of the Band of Brothers mockups, (based on a 432?? I'd have to check).
Lovely to see a Churchill attending again, not been one there for 5 years or so.
Is the Cadman Mark IV moving? We watched it die years ago and it doesn't seem to have run since.

Why am I asking these questions... I'll find out tomorrow .

Cheers,
Adam.

That hatch looks 'after-market'. Wanted to see the wheels on the side. I was suspecting as much. Seeing more and more of these.

I think Hollywood's new-found interest in WW2, initially driven by Mr Spielberg paid for a lot of recreations, and seems to have dropped quite a bit of cash into proper restorers hands. The UK does seem to be the only place to film a wide range of armour.

Thanks for these Martin, looks like the SGB have some goodies there.

I'm planning on taking the Slug and one of his chums on Saturday, so if any of you kind souls who get there before us could mention the weather in your post it'll be most appreciated.

After last year the mud discouraged a couple of newbies, and the girls, and tbh I'd give it a miss too if it's going to be a repeat performance.

cheers,
