Death Cards
I'm referring to the cards that you can often see on ebay, such as this one here:
Does anyone have any info on these items? Did other counties produce such cards? (I know that Italy did at times). I'm assuming that these were published in bulk and distributed at any funeral services there might be, but this is mere speculation on my part, and by knowledge on the subject ends there. Any info is appreciated.

Re: Deah Cards
France used death cards too, they were usually more religious and less martial and did not often have pictures , but rahther a psalm or an icon.

Re: Deah Cards
Otto have you heard about this site?
Sterbebilder - German Death Cards
I bought his cd for a few euros and got a double cd with over 5700 death cards on it. They are both WWII and WWI from all fronts includingg R.K soldiers, ordinary sailors from the Bismarck, airmen, panzer units etc... It's a great quality work and with high definition scans of both sides, including the religious pic. The only thing is tha there are so many that they are scanned randomly.

Re: Deah Cards
yes........... I have another NJG 2 crewmember KIA with his crew. he was also a Bf and I need to see if I put his pic in the saved files, I also have a photo of the pilot/sister in a peaceful pose together. The crew was KIA in November of 44............funny we have been talking abit about that bloody month haven't we. See what I can do to get it loaded up //
4 November 1944 shot down by a Mosquito night fighter: B. Burbridge and F.S. Skelton crew, engagement took place over Hardet and S.W. over Rengsdorf which is mentioned on the crewmans card - Unteroffizier Oswald Wagner , all 3 crewman including the pilot were Unteroffiziers according to WASt report.
To further this our forum member and friend Stevin also supplie me with the report from the Volksbund back in Januar 2005.....thanks Stevin !

Re: Deah Cards
I have no originals but a (self published) book with hundreds of them about Belgian SS men who died at the Ost front. Some come with (researched) biographies....Very interesting...

Hi E, sorry I had not seen this thread before but, yup, Otto is now the proud "Papa" of the cards I had as well as about 43 or so photo's from a soldier who was in the 44th I.D. which was destroyed at Stalingrad, and then reformed from the surviving cadre, only to be destroyed a 2nd time later in the war. If I recall, several of these photos were copies made by the person who was in charge of the 44th I.D. Vets Association.
Boy, talk about something that took place long ago, the buying of these pics from me happened I think about 7-8 years ago?
If I correctly recall, I think Otto (years ago) had said he was going to make a place on this site for collections of photo's to be posted. Reminding hint hint, were still anxiously waiting ;-D
BTW, I think I also made copies of many of my photos and sent them to Sensei Otto as well. Otto, you can step in here anytime and correct or refresh my memory; anytime you deem it necessary ;-)) I've made many copies of many of my pics over the years and I have no idea what all I sent to Otto. I don't think I sent him any of the U 181 pics I have-both from the war, and at the Vets reunion in Bad Camberg. I also have a few single pics that a few of the vets who could not attend because of health reasons, sent to me as well. I have a very cool one that I got from Franz-Josef Hawran, shortly before he passed away. This photo showed him wearing tropical uniform, sporting a full beard, wearing gloves standing on the conning tower leaning against an MG-34 and grinning from ear-to-ear. By far, this is one of my most favorite photos in my collection.
