Ok guys check this out I got this WWII mosin nagant m91/30. I got is for $50 it was in horrible shape missing the cleaning rod, and with only about 25% finish. Also the bore was so worn you could drop a .308 bullet down it and is would fall for about 3 or 4 inches befor stopping, yet it could still hit a man size target half the time at 100 yards.

Here's the sad part. I refinished it. Now it looks great but is only wourth about $30. but would you have known that it was made in 1942 and the serial # is 9xx! yes in the hundreds! and guess what. They made about 3 million of those rifels that year. I refinished the gun not knowing the significance of that. Oh well. Well guys how much money if any did I blow away?

Thanks
William

Don't worry about monitary value too much. I have a silk escape map given to me by a normandy veteran who carried it in his boot on d-day and way after. It's filthy-dirty and worth about 1/30th of what a mint one would be. But who wants that?

You've got a great, early rifle. Sounds really cool to me!!! I'd buy it for $50!!!!

I agree with you there, Doc.

I prefer items in worn, used condition.
What stories could they tell..... ?

An old thread...but anyway sounds like you have a nice rifle. Its one of the very early imports being it didnt come with the cleaning rod,They are in their original condition as they were when the soldiers turned them in,they are not refinished though if their is a refurb mark its because it was repaired during the war and then sent back to combat, I own some of them and their my favorites - The embedded shrapnel, the burn marks, the cracks in the stocks,These rifles have been places where most of us wouldnt make it 2 feet!
The storys these rifles could tell............When I took mine apart there was dirt and dried pieces of grass in the stock.
