Here's the spiel.

My gandfather gave my dad this Unfired type 99 arisaka rifle. It was picked up by my grandfather's brother in tokyo after the war. It like many late war arisaka's is pritty crudly made. But all serial #'s are matching it is a 60,3xx rifle. All parts are present and intact. The bore is shiny (Or as shiny as they could make it at that time in the war) The Chrysanthium flower on the reciever has been ground down during manufactuer. Also since my dad and his brother used to play "army" with it as kids it only has %80-%90 finnish left.

What do you guys think? I think it could get at least $250-$300.

Thanks
William

Um--not unless the Chrysanthemum is still presant.

About 10-15 years ago in the Philipines--three huge warehouses of Ariskas were found. There were something to the tune of about 4 million or more rifles--all-matchig ans all still in Cosmoline. These sold openly for about $50.00. Im sure that by now--that has doubled to $100.00. Ive got a nice Ariska Bayonet worth about 5 x's the price that the rifle goes for that it belongs on.

Theyy ground the emblem off because it was a sign of their Emperor. Nothing with that emblem was supposed to be allowed to fall into non-japanese hands.

Oh very interesting. Also now that I look at it, it seems that the apparent finish over the Chrysanthium seems to be more of a very dark brown rust than a blueing or parkerising.
