Great site Fried, I can see some of them but, the damned library filter system is blocking the majority of the pics all because the link has the word nazi in it.

Great pictures Friedrich!! All that uniforms in full colour. I think I have to go to my militaria room to sit and read a bit; together with some red port.

Glad you liked them!
Carl, I've only can say one thing about that: buy yourself a bloody computer!
I don't like the photos so much because of the full-colour uniforms, but the skin, hair and eye-colour of these men. I can really get obsessed by how did people looked in reality —which is most black & white photos we cannot know...

Thanx again Friedrich!
This time especially on Generalmajor Erich Bärenfänger. Do you happen to have more data on him during the last days of Reich? I think he was some 11 hours (!) the commandant of Berlin at one point, and born in 1915....!??

I thought you were going to like Dietl's photo even more! It's amazing.
Unfortunately Bärenfänger's isn't there in high resolution... but it is still a good one.
However, I thought too that you were the one with a lot information about him. I know he was the youngest general in the Wehrmacht —30—, that he wasn't even a career officer and that he never was a lieutenant colonel... He won the with Oakleaves and Swords. I'm sure I have some info somewhere. And many pcitures
Kai, any time you need photos of a general, ask me for it, have more than 500 photographs of German generals.

There are books out now with full page full colour portraits of RKT with swords and diamonds. I haven't bought them (yet??) but looked into them and the pictures are great.
And Friedrich, you are right about the looks of the people. In colour you can really see how they looked like. But I also can't take my eyes if the uniforms

And best of all, Richard, no red eyes! like nowadays 'digital' photographs...
I mean, look at this!
One of Kai Petri's WWII heroes looks like a Hollywood star and also looks a lot like my boyfriend...

Thanx for the excellent pic here, Friedrich!
I guess it could have been Panzermeyer or someone else, but somehow I found Peiper to be one of the most interesting figures of Germans Waffen-SS. I think the rescue patrol in Russia in 1943 made the impression on me!

You mean guiding the stragglers of 320. ID back to the main defense line? Gustav Knittel did the same for the 298. ID at the same moment, but without a book like the one written by Agte this fact hardly gets any attention.

Hey Timo, Good to see you here again. How is the Knittel research coming along??
I read somewhere else that a book IS in the making after all?

Hallo Stevin,
Hmmm, where did you read about that?
Remi Spezzano approached me in this matter but after that hell broke loose because some people I used to work with on another project suddenly feared that I would publish and have all the scoops before their book is out. They tried to discredit me claiming that I stole info from them (info that I found by myself while working with them). This, and the problems which would no doubt show because SS AA 1 research obviously included big parts from the works of Ralf Tiemann and Kurt Meyer, made me decide to continue mu work as a non-commercial project, the way I started it, just for the fun of it.
But it's definitely getting big. 357 pages stuffed with facts about Meyer, Knittel and their men. And I'm still adding more details every day.

Basic details are found in Lehmann's Divisional history, February 1st to 4th 1943. I have it detailed in my manuscript but it's all in German.

Timo,
Any chance you could post or email me some details for Knittel? Esp. the action to bring in the stragglers. Sounds like a good wargame! I once put on a game based on Peipers action so would be interested in portraying one of Knittels actions on the tabletop!

I saw Mark Yerger mentioning something to that effect on the Feldgrau forums a while back.
Sorry to hear about the trouble you ran into. Although it is understandable that people are worried about their own projects and "scoops", you would think there are different ways of dealing with it than discredit people. I still hope your work will find its way to the public, one way or the other.
I guess the 1-4 Feb 1943 timeframe would be either in part III or IV/1 of DIE LEIBSTANDARTE, right? Just the ones I don't have yet...
PS: Anyone by chance got part IV of Weidinger's DAS REICH for sale?
