Hi Erich, sorry for the delay in my responce, the range I use the K98 on insissts that you shoot in a lieing down possition, I find that the stock on my K98 is very stright and in this possition dose not fit that well into my sholder, I think that if I where in a standing or kneeling possition it would fit a lot better

Nice score Kai! Now I wonder who owns his ribbonbar? or is this one at the bottom of the Atlantic Ocean?

Re: Show us your militaria...
Hi Mike, Kai,
Mike, nice collection. Sorry I could not say so earlier ;-))
Kai, quite welcome my friend. Someday, im going to have to fly over to the land of Finns, and see your photo/autograph collections ;-))
I don't know if they are still around or not, but a great site I have seen huge amounts of great to, mundane pics for sale is at: www.hartmannandhartmann.com Not sure if this is the correct url or not but, they have an amazing amount of original pics for sale-and cheaper than most sites.

Re: Show us your militaria...
C the link has choked.
punch up Cy Stapleton on google and watch what happens, then go over to his other link a German bro in arms, I think this is where Kai is getting his original postcard like photos war signed pics, an excellent site that I have visited many many times plus a few goodies direct from Cy S anyway.
hey Kai just look at the KM purchase(s) as a slight deviation, and my freind once I interview my Km friend locally I am gonna need your Finnish expertize for the island of Oesel and the Saaremand(sp ?) during 44-45. he was in Marine Flak or Artilliere and moved from spot to spot receiving the EK 2, he should of gotten the DK in Gold though in my opinion, 1 of only 25% of the truppen that were evac'd from the Finnish isles to the German shoreline on the Baltic

Re: Show us your militaria...
I don't know if this counts as militaria.
1. Two Armed Services Editon books. Here Is Your War by Ernie Pyle and Bill Mauldin's Up Front. Both printed in 1945 and were available to soldiers overseas.
2. Several Yank magazines from 1944 and 1945
3. Life magazine from 1945 with Doug McArthur on the front
4. Sea Bee magazine from May 9, 1945
5 Local newspapers dated May 8 and Sept 15 1945, as well as part of a paper from earlier in the war.
6. The telegram my wife's grandfather sent home telling them he was coming home.
This and a lot of other personal things, correspondence, little souvenirs, etc were kept by my wife's grandparents over the years. The also kept newspapers from JFK's assissination, the 1969 moonwalk, etc. After her grandparents' deaths, the family was cleaning out the house and I went by to help. I found this stuff in a garbage bag to be THROWN AWAY. I was appalled. I gathered the stuff up and went through it, storing it. There were little letters written by my wife's uncle when he was 5, to his dad overseas. His father had kept the the whole time he was gone. The uncle didn't know they existed and I gave them to him.

Re: Show us your militaria...
Hi Jeff, I had a similar experiance concerning my Dad and Grandfathers stuff. My oldest Brother can be an asshole at times. This was shortly after my Father had passed away in 1988, and we were going through a bunch of stuff in a quansit hut that we owned and had been running a business from out of.
Well, as im the only person in my family at that time (and probably still now) that had any interest in "that old war junk" as my older bro deemed it so, that that stuff HAD to be chucked in the garbage.
Well, we had a large BFI Dumster in back and it was about 1/4th full, when something possessed me to go take a look in the dumster, so I climbe in and moved some paper around and saw something that looked like a coat, and naturally I picked it up and discovered it was my Grandfathers WWII Captains jacket. Naturally it went back out of the dumpster and I went to go hide it in some bushes-so that my older brother would not see that it was rescued.
Well, after hiding the jacket, I thought i'd better look through everything and again climbed into the dumpster and started chucking everything back out. I soon found my Dads WWII G.I. Steel Pot, and two of his Airforce tunics (one was of the "Ike" style) and those were set aside as well as the few ribbonbars and his WWIIVictory Medal. I did not find any other ribbonbars and medals that were my dads and suspected my brother threw them away somewhere else.
Before I was through, I also found my grandfathers Doughboy overseas cap, all of his WWII ribbonbars, Mariners Medal (which is quite rare and getting more expensive these days) and the two sets of "award cards" that showed in color, a fascimilie of the award he recieved as well as being signed by some high upper-up, and a pair of binoculars that my grandfather took from a German officer, and also, I found that Kriegsmarine Destroyer badge that had been given to my grandfather. Sadly, I think my brother burned all of their military documents as well as most of their photos.
Like I said, my oldst brother can be an asshole.
PS, everything I found that day and rescued, I have in MY collection with the exception of one of thos esets of award cards-which was stolen from me by a former friend and member of this site.

Re: Show us your militaria...
You will have to bear with me for a little while bacuse I do not know much about the name of hats or the things on the caps.
Ok, My father in law has a piece of cloth that went around a krigsmarine sailors hat with the name of the ship on it, it says on it the 'Kreuzer Emden'. He got it from his Father who fought in the Royal Navy during ww2 on a few differnet warships who in turn got it from a captured German Kriegsmarine sailor who was posted on the Emden, he does not however have his cap, but when I was being showed this stuff, I was having great fun none the less.
