Hi,
I bought my husband, as he is collector of war medals etc, WWII Mililtary Uniform Bars which have 4 rows of 3 bars across for a total of 12 bars. I think they are US?
Can anyone help describe to me what they mean. I wanted to display text with these when I give them to him for his birthday.

I have attached a photo of the ribbons, (hopefully it will work) as this is the first time I have been to this site.
Any assistance is much appreciated

Top Row L-R
Legion of Merit (5 Awards), American Defense Medal, American Campaign Medal
Second Row
Unknown to me, Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Medal, National Defense Service Medal
Third Row
Unknown to me, Army of Occupation Medal, National Defense Service Medal
Fourth Row
Korean Service Medal (6 Awards), United Nations Korean Service Medal, Republic of Korea Presidential Unit Citation.
Maybe some of the others can you with the remaining two. I don't know what the A device is for on the American Defense Medal.

You sure on the Legion of Merit there mate? Pretty sure that's a Navy Good Conduct Medal.

Nice WWII/Korean War ribbonbar! I wish I could help on the unknowns but, all I collect are Imperial and WWII German ribbonbars and i'd be of little usage.

I believe I have identified one of the two missing: (the first one from the first row, the yellow one with two red stripes). I think it's the China service medal.

Jeff. I think the A device may actually be the V device upside down. It looks like all the Star devices seem to be upside down too.

Think I got this one figured:
A Device - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
It seems the A device was awarded for contact with the enemy before the war officially began. Seeing as this guy has about 20 years (five good conduct medals at four years for each - assuming he never got busted) this is a logical conclusion as he has US Navy service before the war, during the war, and then in Korea. |

The first one is a Navy Good Conduct medal (5 awards for 20 years service). I should know I have several myself. Legion of Merit is red and white striped. |
