Photo collection from mobilization to Bergen-Belsen
I had to share that I met a woman last night at school who is developing the negatives from her father's WWII collection. He took photos from the time he joined the RCAF in Saskatoon through the time he volunteered to work at Bergen-Belsen camp after the war in honour of his friend with whom he'd joined the RCAF. I don't have his complete story yet, but the photos vary from his receiving his birthday cake in the mail to dead Germans and the concentration camp. She has prints of many of the photos, which he identified. She also has all his letters which she is now cross-referencing to the photos. She is also getting in touch with any Veterans still living as he identified everyone with first and last names and where they came from!!
She said he never spoke about any of this or his experiences as a dispatch rider for the RCAF (I never considered that they would have these before!). She also apparently has a photo of a 4-Engine Bomber which I knew nothing about. She has not shared any of this collection before and it may take me time, but now that I have her contact information, I hope I'll be able to eventually convince her to share the photos etc somewhere since they are such a remarkable historical reference. I'll let you know where to view once I've hopefully succeeded!
