impressed - you are answering my questions before I ask them !
Here is the signal cartridge which I picked up just two weeks ago in a field next to Moissy Ford in the Falaise Gap. I had assumed that the 'milling' was damage caused by the farmers' plough - I'm obviously pleased to learn that it's not so.
You can just see the remains of a colour ring on the base, the stamped initial 'AH' and the vestiges of a stencil on the body of the cartridge....
More mysteries being solved all the time !
