I remember Erich had quite some interest in German signal flare ammunition, somebody posted this nice drawing on my website from different types of flare ammunition. Would like to share it with you guys, maybe it can be of use.

OK Nick, now I have to say that I'm impressed - you are answering my questions before I ask them !

Here is the signal cartridge which I picked up just two weeks ago in a field next to Moissy Ford in the Falaise Gap. I had assumed that the 'milling' was damage caused by the farmers' plough - I'm obviously pleased to learn that it's not so.

You can just see the remains of a colour ring on the base, the stamped initial 'AH' and the vestiges of a stencil on the body of the cartridge....
