Re: What are your newest Militaria purchases II?
Good thing i am not invisible, i bought the Iron Cross and the other medal all together, they are in really good condition, the reason i thought i was invisible, is because of my post at this thread: FOV Extreme Metal 1/16 - Tiger I Villers Bocage !!!

Re: What are your newest Militaria purchases II?
Hi Collector, Kai,
Collector, good grouping none the less. I have a few small groupings such as that one. My favorite is one that was only two award docs and the accompaning badges. Nothing great but is an honest grouping.
Kai, love thos epics and congrats on a nice album.

French Wounded medal with recall . Some of the enamel is missing but this is one of the earliest versions (newer ones have larger stars)

Re: What are your newest Militaria purchases II?
nice Skip
Kai is the album dedicated to a certain individual or unit ? also anything written on the back of the pics like the older gent in the first pic repeated foto twice. It is an oddity but gravemarkers/sites and ruined buildings are quite common occurance in the German Landser albums.

Re: What are your newest Militaria purchases II?
Hi Skip
Nice medal...You state that it's an early example. What era does that one date from?
I also am wondering if the French still use that or a variation of the Medal today? Like the US still uses the Purple Heart.
Thanks for the help.

Hi Fisher it came with a batch from a WWI vet so my guess is 1916-18, but he could have received it in the 1920s 30s. Enlcosed are more pictures from different versions with different rings and circular backgrounds (mine is not a circle).
they also have a similar one with a white star for civilian wounded.
but that many makers had them in different shapes and quality . It was first awarded in 1916. (the white star in 1918)
I will try to get one of each version in the future, but apparently dozens were made.... It's the first time I have one with a non circular background though I only found one source with a similar one so if you have more info to date it (WWI , WWII or post WWII) , I'd be most interested. La médaille des blessés militaires - GeneaWiki
I believe it is still awarded today , at least according to this vet site that sells it to those who have the right to wear them http://www.anttrn.com/medailles.html
Hope this helps.

Hi Skipper, I take it that the different star colors representd a different amount of woundings?

Re: What are your newest Militaria purchases II?
No Carl , red is military whiteis civilian, however you could distinguish the number of wounds on the ribbon or the recall, they were either printed or pinned. See examples below

Re: What are your newest Militaria purchases II?
Thank you Skipper, and those are rather nice ribbon bars. I liked the heavily red enameled one the most-reall a nice quality badge.

Re: What are your newest Militaria purchases II?
if only they weren't so expensive (about 25 euros each) , I could try to get all the vareties and makers, but that's another story

Re: What are your newest Militaria purchases II?
25-30 euros is not much, but with the dozens of variants the bills go up really fast and you have to give up other priorities in your collection, hence the gap of variants in my collection. I mean for the price of 2 variants you can get a Legion d'Honneur, with one, a Resistance Medal.....
