Just read that the USAF had a nice experience with one of their new F-22 Raptors. It's canopy stuck shut at Langley AFB with the pilot inside. They had to use chainsaws to open it up. It cost them $182000 to fix
Got to love the US Military.
Can't live with them can't live without them

You guys know how to spend a few dollars yourself !! At least the F-22 is kind of good looking. I should put this in the ugly airplane thread too.

In Finland two Hornets collided early May this year. Trying to play hide and seek up there?
Two Karelia Air Command’s F-18 Hornet air defense fighters on a training mission collided.
The pilots were uninjured, but the aircraft sustained damage. The canopy transparency of one aircraft disintegrated while the other jet lost a piece of 20 x 40 centimeters from the tip of the left vertical stabilizer.

Pretty good bargain once they stayed in the air.
Still a quality strike bomber 30 years plus down the road
The F one-double one it is a lovely plane,
Flies at twice the speed of sound,
Scatters bombs like rain.
Wings go back & forward
Its the greatest thing around,
Its a pity that it isnt safe
To take them off the ground......

Cool poem ! I wish you guys could have bought a better and safer aircraft for all that money, perhaps some B-52's.

That is pocket change to an army. Those planes cost millions. Tho, how much were the chainsaws? It was probably in Alabama.

Its a song, I'll try to find the rest of it.
We didnt, and still dont, need B-52, B1 or B2's. Who do we need to nuke!! (Apart from New Zealand)
The F111 was the ideal aircraft for the strike role we needed, and I believe the USAF is still wishing it didnt scrap theirs, with the equivalent technology it would beat the Mud Hen into the ground.
They're built like Brick Dunnies too, last week a pilot landed one "wheels up" after the wheels fell off, someone forgot a split pin or similar. It'll be in the air again.

Yeah, And we probably deserve it for the way we treated them.
But then we only followed the Colonial cleansing theories of our forefathers.
