Default Looking for Father

Looking for information on a William Schmidt. He is the father of my wife born 15th April 1946 Australia. Her mother has now passed away and left her with very little on him. Any information and photos were destroyed by fire. She did say he came from Wisconsin and was 23 at the time he was here in Australia during WW2 in 1945. Amongst her belongings was a submarine combat badge which suggest he may have been in the US Navy. She lived in them Camp Hill area so he possibly was camped nearby. We do recall the mention of Carl which may be his middle name or father. Any information as to his history would be very much appreciated.

You may be interested in the following link. If you father is not among the Williams Smiths here you could try others wars too. This is only for the fallen , so not finding him would be good news. Also you may try to contact the australian authorities mentionned on the site and apply for records claiming you are a relative. I believe the files are open to the public after 60 years. Hope this helps.

Thank you for your reply. He was an American so I need to be able to search US records. I seem to be able to only find access to Army records and can't find anything on the Navy
