War Cemeteries GPS File
I just received a great email from forumite BraunstonBruce. We has compiled a great list of WWI & WWII cemeteries for gps systems and requested I share it with the rest of you Rogues. Below is the content of his email, the attached zip file is attached to this post.

I have attached the zip file containing War Cemeteries.ov2, bmp and csv
The ov2 and bmp file should be copied to the relevant map directory on a TomTom eg France, Belgium, Netherlands or Western Europe.
The csv file is for Garmin sat navs. I'm not familiar with them but I've had no complaints!
This file is also posted on the Great War Forum and yourNAV.com | The road to your Personal Navigation Device
French 801 Cems
Dutch 71 Cems
Belgian 226 Cems
many thanks
Bruce

Outstanding work, Bruce. That must have taken a while to do, a labor of love, I must guess.
Erich I saw mucho British Cemeteries, didn't see anything overtly labeled German or Deutsch. Anybody else more knowledgeable than I look at it?

Many thanks Slipdigit,
They took me about a year to bring to this standard. I've been releasing them from time to time as I worked. Each cemetery had to be identified by reference to the Commonwealth War Graves Commission :: CWGC ::website and Google Earth and also Geoportail for the French Cemeteries. I've attempted where possible to plot the actual gates of the cemetery or if that was not useful then the nearest point you can get to it by car. Many of the cemeteries are in the middle of fields with no roads. Some are in the middle of housing estates completely surrounded by houses. I plotted the biggest ones first and have worked down to the ones with 65 CWGC burials. There are some included which have less.
I would like to plot them all eventually but the smaller they get the harder it is. Luckily GE is getting better all the time.
I looked at plotting UK cemeteries but it is a tremendous task with the vast majority of burials in churchyards all over the country. No really big ones like in France.
Its amazingly difficult to spot chuches on GE when the tower or spire is pointing straight up at you!
cheers all
Bruce

Re: War Cemeteries GPS File
Hi Again,
Attached is an update to the War Cemeteries file. Note the renaming of the file to War_Cemeteries (with the underscore). The zip file contains 3 files. An ov2, bmp and a Garmin csv file. The ov2 and bmp file are for TomTom GPS units and should be placed in the appropriate map directory on the unit.
This is also available from TomTom themselves via the TomTom HOME utility.

Excellent piece of work - I am sure people over at Otto's World War 2 Talk would love to see this, too. Any chance of posting it there as well?

Re: War Cemeteries GPS File
Nice work. It's a titanic task! There are many more in France, some with only one grave. One of these days I may buy a Tomtom and get a few records for you here and there.
