Hi Tom. My father also fought with the 2nd Marine Division in WWII. He joined the division with a replacement Bn in December 1944, arriving in Saipan at the end of January '45. From there, his unit (K company, 3rd Bn, 8th Marines) participated in combat operations in April in Okinawa, trained for pending invasion of Japan in Saipan (May-Sept), then was part of the occupation forces, arriving in Nagasaki in Sept.

Good luck with your search.
