I am proud to be a part of this wonderful site and hope to learn much more stuff than i already know. I have always been interested in history of the world, but his war has always been my biggest interest.

However i would like to learn more about the people that actually served in ww2. The reason for this is a special project that i am having to do in my world history class.

Please if you will, answer these questions.

1.How old were you during this war?
2.What was life like at this time?
3.What were the costs of some material items such as milk, bread, gas ect at that time?
4.Were you married? How did the war affect the family?
5. How were you involved in the war effort?
6. Which branch of the war were they in?
7.Can you recall any interesting memories of the war or life at home you may want to share?
8.Did you support the war?
9.What were some direct personal effects of the war? Financial, personal, family?
10.Did the war and the outcome of the war alter your perception of America?
11. Are you more prone to saving money?
12.What are your thoughts on the war with Iraq
13.What are your hopes for the future of our country?

1.How old were you during this war?
When WW2 started on the 3rd September 1939 I was just 16
2.What was life like at this time?
Good !
3.What were the costs of some material items such as milk, bread, gas ect at that time?
As a 16 year old I was not concerned with such matters but you can get this info by GOOGLING
4.Were you married?
At 16?
How did the war affect the family?
My parents lost a son and I lost a brother
5. How were you involved in the war effort?
Priot to being conscripted at the age of 19 I was an Air Raid Warden
6. Which branch of the war were they in?
Who do you mean?
7.Can you recall any interesting memories of the war or life at home you may want to share?

My close knit family was scattered and never to be the same
again
10.Did the war and the outcome of the war alter your perception of America?
I was introduced to Americans for the first time and found the contact enlightening

11. Are you more prone to saving money?
Do you mean as a result of the war or as a result of my present age ?
12.What are your thoughts on the war with Iraq
Sorry, I never discuss politics with a stranger
13.What are your hopes for the future of our country?
For Britain? I am for ever an optimist

Ron...on the date the war started for you, did you mean 1939 instead of 1942?

thanks for the interesting reply Mr Goldstein, maybe HSK could go thru your answers and cover the questions that were somewhat vague? That would be nice. I would like to read the answers!

Dear Bigfun

I'm pleased that you thought my response was of interest and yes, I would be quite happy to reply to more specific WW2 questions from the young HSKBates.

Before popping back into my slit trench I'd like to mention that whenever someone on this site talks about Mr.Goldstein I always think that a long-lost cousin has just popped out of the woodwork and joined the site

It has taken me some time, but I have finally convinced Jeff (Slipdigit) that I am happier if he calls me Ron, perhaps I can persuade you and others to do the same?

Yes, I finally do, but it doesn't mean I like it. Where I live, the appending of "Mr." before the name of man who worthy of honor is expected.

You are worthy by your actions as a young man..
