Default WW2 Medals

Can anyone help?

I need some information on WW2 medals, in particular the following:

1939 - 1945 Star
Italy Star
Defence Medal
War Medal

My Grandad received the medals in memory of his uncle who died in WW2. Sadly my grandad passed away on Sunday and it was his wish to be buried wearing the medals. I am not sure which order they should be worn in and I heard that if the medals are being worn in memory of someone else they should be worn on the opposite side.

Can anyone help me, Thank you.

I send my condolences on your loss.

The medals, as you look at them.

Starting from left to right:
The 39-45 Star
The Italy Star
The Defence Medal
The Victory Medal

As you have correctly been told, they should be worn on the right breast to signify that they were not awarded to the person who is wearing them but are merely being worn as a mark of respect.

Best wishes

Ron

Just in case, have a look at:
BBC - WW2 People's War - A letter to an unknown researcher of the year 2056
but ignore the Africa Star
