4/4th Prince of wales own gurkha rifles.
I am tying up some loose ends before i send of the forms for my dads army service records let me tell you what i know and what research i have done. Dad joined up before july 43 as he lied about his age but was not 18 until 16 july 43 he enlisted in RASC, i have already contacted the RLC, museum and no joy, problem is i dont have dads service no. Next dad voluntered for para training and he always told me he was 11 para battalion again i have a problem tried ringway can find no record of jumps(would my dad know his battalion posting if he had not finised his jump training which would explain me not findind any record at ringway)and when 11 para went to arnhem dad was recovering from accident involving a bad chute. So next i have dad in burma dont know the regiment for all you patient people here comes the reason for the gurkha heading i know that in march 45 dad was at MANDALAY HILL AND FORT DUFFREIN on the road to mandalay i know this for definate as i have a picture of dad sat in front of a huge golden buddha on mandalay hill, at this time the hill was attacked by 2nd berks, 8/12th frontier force, and.........you got it 4/4th gurkha rifles all this between 7th and 13th march.Dad always spoke of serving with gurkhas is it possible he was attached to the 4/4th gurkha rifles and if i contact the gurkha museum will they be ableto shed light on my problem? dad ended up the war in SEAC IN SINGAPORE coming home in 46? any help or ideas much appreciated.Jason

Re: 4/4th Prince of wales own gurkha rifles.
You definately need his service number to make life easier.
You've posed the same question on Burma Star site I take it, if not it may be worth a try?
It is easily possible he was attached to Ghurkas, my grandfather was too. But life would be a lot easier if you had his service number.
Surely then as kith and kin, the RASC, or RLC these days, should be able to help you there if he joined their corps firstly?
Unless of course he gave wrong name? You say he was underage, the name in this case probably matters. As his details would have been checked on enlistment under his real name.

Re: 4/4th Prince of wales own gurkha rifles.
I havent a clue, the fact some are wearing berets though has to mean something out there. Thats not a usual thing in most pics taken at the time in Burma is it?
I cant see the cap badge clearly though.

Re: 4/4th Prince of wales own gurkha rifles.
Anyway can I get the picture blown? up but not distorted due to the pixels in the pic,and you have a point about the berets that had always struck me as sort of outta place although the mob my dad was with kinda pleased them selves. Dad always said they operated in a spearhead role, and being at Changi shortly after it was liberated.
