My father said he joined the US Army in 1942, at the start of WWII. He would have been only 16 at the time and claims to have lied about his age.
I have never been able to find a speck of information about him online. I do know that he worked for the Air Force until 1968-9, and then retired. He said that he joined the army and then was in the army air force, then when they split, he came to Mtn Home Air Force base when it first started as a tent base. He then left, but returned to Mtn Home Air Force base in the late 60s and worked for some years, then retired.
I don't know how much of this is true. I had (since destroyed, sadly) a few photos of my father as a young man, standing in front of some military looking places. He tended to make things up sometimes. He was quite a story teller and I've since discovered that some of his tales of our ancestry were completely false. I'm hoping his military record isn't.
I guess I'd like to find out if anyone knew him and could fill me in on a few details of his life. He passed away in 1993, and I was just 21 at the time and didn't have any idea of asking him any of these questions...
Any help?
