My grandfather served in North Africa and Europe as a lorry driver. the particular regiment is unknown to me. His name was Harold Humphries and originally came from Godalming, Surrey but was stationed to Glasgow and met my gran. can anyone help with the transport regiments at that time and possibly which one would have seen these two areas.

Rather than trying to identify his unit your best bet would be to contact these people and apply for his service records.

One of your parents may be listed as his next of kin. If they are no longer with us and you can prove the connection you will gain access to his service records. It's all about the Data Protection Act.

Once you get them it's a lot easier to decipher what units he was with and when.
