Found more info on my dad's WWII involvement. His separation papers show he was in Btry A 265th F A Bn. Haven't hit on anything searching for info. Appreciate anything anyone might know.

The 265th FA battalion was a general support battalion equipped with 240mm Howitzers (the largest gun the US Army deployed to field service). Initially, it was equipped with 105mm howitzers but later re-equipped with the 240mm Howitzer for field service.

The unit was organized at Camp Shelby MS on 3/1/43. It went to the ETO via NYPE (New York Port of Entry) on 4/23/44 arriving in England on 4/28/44. From there it went to France on 7/4/44. It is credited with campaigns in Nothern France and Rhineland putting it in 1st or 9th Army. The unit returned to the US via NYPE on 12/30/45 and was subsequently disbanded at Camp Kilmer NJ on 12/31/45.
