Army films
Hey
I was wondering--
Whenever you watch a documentary on WWII, you always see actual archival clips from the war--either of battles, or of troops in general. I was wondering if there was any way to discover any such films or archival footage that might have contained my grandfather...He was in the 11th Infantry, served in the army from 1939 to 1945 and fought in the Rhineland and Northern France campaigns, as well as in the Battle of the Bulge, and was shot in the leg in Luxembourg during that battle, and from there shipped to England (hospitalized) and from there back to the USA. From '39 to '41, he was assigned to guard the Panama Canal; He later worked as a cabbie in the '50s, a chauffeur, and as a security guard for the Pinkertons at the 1964 New York World's Fair.
I'd be interested to find any clips of him as he died an untimely death in 1975, long before I was born, and as such there is only one grainy 8mm home movie of him, and no known sound recordings of him--I'd be interested to see what he was like in person (rather than still photos) or what he sounded like--And I figured the only possible way would be archival footage from the war. He attended some USO events in 1942 and possibly later, meeting and being professionally photographed with Jinx Falkenburg--so perhaps there was some video taken of those events?
