Depends a lot on the manufacturer... Some are more realistic than others, but they tend to overdo the features to make them stand out in that scale... I know what you mean though... Sometimes they do look odd! Will post some foundry figures, they tend to be the most realistic.

OH well... Erich just offended all our vertically challenged members...
I guess it just something you have to live with. I guess its to include some detail. Will post some from another company who have HUGE guns... I mean massive MP40s, they look really odd... big heads and big guns!

Some models from the GHQ 1/285th range...
An 88 and tow...
A Type IX U-Boat... retails at $7.75
Their new Typhoon... wicked model.
Their re-modelled Tiger I... Amazing detail foe 1/285th scale.
Their latest Fallschirmjager release, support weapons, in the same scale as the tanks. That means these guys are about 8-10mm tall...

Erich in all honesty it depends on the scupltors abilty and also the casting can often deform the proportions of a figure.

I quite agree!!! I have their British paras and Fallschirmjager and commandos!
Some of their figures... all 28mm...
A figure from their German veterans pack...
US M4A3 Sherman 75MM WET
One of their Soviet scouts... my favourite figures they do. I had a whole platoon of these, 30 fighures, and they paint up really well. I sold my platoon for £4 a figure!!!
A figure from their BAR pack... Westwind figures have really action style poses and they are perfect for skirmish games. I am painting this pack up at the moment and they are very well animated. Nice figures!

Some figures from Battlefield Miniatures 20mm range... I have bought alot of these recently. They are not as 'skinny' as SHQ or as 'chunky' as Britannia. They fit well with all other manufacturers. good quality range that looks to be expanding to cover all main armies... Highly recommended!!!
Some from the Berlin range...
Miltary discipline, Soviet style! This set is in front of me, waiting to be painted as I type! One of those 'must have' figure sets...
Dismounted Panzer crew...
Germans with PPsH SMGs.

Some of the latest releases from A. B. Figures 20mm range. These are superb figures but very pricey, hence why I only have a few! They are used for some of the displays in museums up and down the UK...
British releases first...
Tank crew bailing...
Street Fighters...
Brits in foxholes...
Some of the new commando range, released for D-Day 60th.

Now for some Germans and Yanks from A.B. Figures...
All still 20mm or 1/76th scale...
TAnk crew bailing out...
Some excellent mortar teams...
Section attacking...
Some examples of their new E.T.O GI range, just the ticket for re-fighting 'Saving Private Ryan'!

Chiltern Miniatures WW2 28mm. Rather chunky and those guns look a bit big to me...
German infantry
German command
Brits with BIG rifles...
Soviet command.
Not that keen on these figures, some are ok but those British rifles look way too big!
