Default P-39L Hugh Dow "Evelyn"

I'm thinking about making a model of Hugh Dow's P-39L "Evelyn" but then I read that it really wasn't his aircraft. His actual P-39 had the letter "D" on the door not a "V" and his nickname "Rowdy" was painted on it as well. Has anyone else read this or know anything about it? Do you have references or pictures?
He was with the 346th FS, 350th FG Algeria, spring 1943.
