Default Check out THIS guys stuff!

I just stumbled across this guy's page on eBay - he's a professional modeller and, needless to say, he does some really nice armor.

here are a coouple examples:

here's a link to his 'About Me' page with a bunch of pictures.

Nice work! Must have a lot of time though, it looks like that would take forever!!Have you ever John Rosengrants stuff?? For those not in the know, he does FX for movies like Terminator, Aliens, etc, but is also a butt kickin WWII armor builder too.

His models are amazing. I absolutely love the 'winterized' Stug. Awesome effects. He does a great job at 'weathering' the models. Very realistic. Then again, I am an amatuer when it comes to modeling so some of you experts may see this differently.

I noticed that he notes as some build from 'scratch', does that mean the whole model? Also, I noticed that he uses metal for the barrels. Is there some kind of significance in this?

From what I've seen, he lists the main model kit, any after-market detail kits that he used (i.e. Eduard, Verlinden, etc.) and notes 'scratchbuild' if he added any scratchbuilt details above and beyond that.

I have no idea why HE uses metal barrels - if it was me, it would be because I dropped the plastic 'kit' barrel, stepped on it and broke it into three pieces, cursed a blue-streak as I bent over to pick up the shattered pieces, bumped my hobby table with my more-than-ample butt and knocked over two bottles of model paint and a tin of thinner which immediately engulfed all of my freshly painted pieces and melded them together into a solid lump of finely detailed plastic garbage, which I immediately scoop up with both hands, dump into the dustbin and go get myself a beer and watch WWII movies.

But, hey.... that's just me.

Maybe he owns a lathe. I do. I occasionally make barrels for my tank models, particularly the resin kits simply because the supplied resin ones are crap and never straight. You can also generally get the tube thickness closer using a metal barrel.

Wait, he MAKES his own barrels? or does he buy them?
Ive used metal barrels before, and I have to say its nice not to have to sand down seam marks. have you seen the newestSturmgeschütz III Ausf.Bby Tamiya?
It has a metal barrel that is actually rifled. pretty sweet looking but at $50.00+ for an out-of-the-box kit,it's a little too rich for my blood.

His works are all works of art-to say the least! I too used to build dioramas (have not done anything for about 22 years now) and used to scratch-build parts using the sprees the kit came with. But holy cow, most of what I was able to do was simply make antennas, wires for radios and barrels for much smaller detailed guns. The only thing I was really good at-but this guy still blows my best pieces to smithereens-was painting 1/32nd, 1/35th and 1/72nd scale soldiers and vehicles. I did dabble a bit into 1/6th scale-but that was only for suits of armor.
