Question Service record? + I'm new here, please to meet you all.

Hi Everyone,

I'm new to this forum as you can probably tell from my question: -

My grandfather served in the army in WWII. I have very little information other than his name, dob, marriage and that he may have served in Egypt.

Could anyone help me or advise as to how I can go about getting his service record (or any information), given that I don't have much information to start with.

Any help most appreciated.

Kind regards

John

Hi John, and very welcome here. I look forward to hear how you will get on with your research.

best thing is to try the Veteran's Agency first:
Service records

Once you have his service records, the real research begins as you know his unit(s), etc.

Stevin

Hello John and Welcome.
Any photos of Grandad we might be able to get some clues from?

Hi Skipper67, Wessex Wyvern and bigfun

Pleased to meet you all. Thank you for welcoming me to these boards.

I've asked my father if he has any photos but it's like getting blood out of a stone. If I get anything I will post them. The more initial help this newbie (me!) can get the better as I have no familiarity with this new area of my research at all.

Speak to you all soon!

John
