A Finn...
Greetings, fellow warmongers, jingoists, arm-wavers and hawks.
And now, after getting your undevided attention... Just kidding. I do share your enthusiasm for WW II history. I always have, since I was just a little boy (I'm over 40 now), been interested in war, it's history and hardware, especially WWII bombers like B-17 or B-29.
I probably won't write much here, I leave that for those, who actually have something to say. But who knows, maybe I'll drop a line every now and then.
My nick, by the way, is from THE Finnish war novel, The Unknown Soldier by Väinö Linna. One of his characters is Antti Rokka, who's name I just translated to english.

Re: A Finn...
Thank You. Yes, I've noticed this fellow Finn acting as a moderator here. Actually, I was going to send him a private mssage, but I guess I can ask my question right here.
What is Forums official policy concerning swastikas? I don't mean German WWII era swastika, but a Finnish swastika Hakaristi in our aeroplanes and medals.
Is it ok to use an old Finnish Pilots Badge as an avatar, for example?

Welcome Andrew P,
As long as it is not used as a pro-Nazism manner or as a Nazi apologist, then it is acceptable. To help clear up an possible ambiguities, add a small note in your signature describing what it is.
The site owner is out of pocket right now, honeymooning. When he gets back, he may have more information regarding your question.

Re: A Finn...
Info I sent earlier this year....
---------
The short legged one was originally "donated" in the plane by Swedish count von Rosen in 1918 and it stayed our symbol.
Axis History Factbook: Finland and the swastika
404
I think they could be called von Rosen crosses.

Re: A Finn...
Hello Neighbour! Another Finn, quite a pleasure!
No problem at all with the FINNISH swastika. In any case it predates the "other one" so...
Do feel welcome into our merry community. There is a surprising accumulated corpus of knowledge that you can benefit from if you use the Search feature wisely.
The Unknown Soldier is in my shelves, somewhere.

Re: A Finn...
My, thank You all...
I'm sure I'm going to enjoy my stay here.
One more FNG-question: how big avatar is allowed here?

Ever since I started researching 6.SS-Nord, I've developed quite a respect and fondness for Finns!

Same for me. I remember a few expressions including "kepis!" (sorry for the spelling)

That's nice to hear, because we Finns are a bit odd: we constantly wonder, what other people think of us.

In my opinion, it's great, that you bothered to learn even that. And I'm sure we Finns here will help you, if you ever want to learn more.
And Skipper67: Kippis is quite easy; you should try Hölökyn Kölökyn!
Or maybe not...
