Re: Hello to all!
Thank you,
However, it would not have been possible without Otto's forum, all of you, and Jeff's kind invitation for me to be here.

Re: Hello to all!
Jack,
What do your children and grandchildren think of this forum? Do they think we're a bunch of loons?

Re: Hello to all!
Hello Jeff,
Well, quite an interest really, they certainly don't think any of you are loons. My youngest granddaughter wanted to make sure no one was picking on me. Im fairly certain about five of them have been reading along at times, I just found that out yesterday.

Re: Hello to all!
yea the Yamamoto was destroyed in its second engagment with the U.S navy, the First time it was attacked by the Hell Divers, but the second time is when those Dauntless Dive bombers hammered it.

Re: Hello to all!
Hello Flying Tiger,
I've seen betty bombers, oscars, zeros, val dive bombers, kate torpedo planes (wreckage), I don't know if ki's were the medium bombers which I have seen from the wrong end as they attacked us, or a fighter which they called a tony that I saw wrecked on Luzon, that had a long cowling and an inline engine.

In the way of a compliment, Jack, I think a tough bird like you could easily handle yourself against anyone you faced.
And to your youngest granddaugter, I applaud her concerns. Otto and the rest of the moderators, not to mention any of the regulars will not let that happen. People always protect their valuables and Jack, you along with Sapper, Ron, Alex and any other veterans from that era here that I may have missed are our valuables.

Very true, Jeff. It's one of the reasons I'm happy to be here - because our Veterans are so highly regarded and valued. The memories you have all shared with us have enriched us beyond all measure.

Re: Hello to all!
Hello Flying Tiger,
That's the one, but, with a mottled green paint job, somewhat bent and twisted as well sitting nose first one the propeller hub, at the time I thought it was a German Messerschmidt the japs had been flying, or a copy of one they had built. Someone identified it as a Tony. It was in the Philippines late '44 or early '45.

Re: Hello to all!
Hello Tiger,
I don't think that one left the ground, it was knocked over on it's nose, not far from a Betty bomber which was broken up and burned, they had worked that aerodrome over pretty well.

Re: Hello to all!
Hello all. I'm back on track. I was a week in Jack's (Duch's) ancestor's country and spent a holiday in Holland. I will read all the posts I missed and catch up soon. Glad to read that this fine thread is still going on.

Hello,
Tiger, I have seen mustangs taking off, flying over in formations, parked on airfields, but, I don't remember any mustangs in action.
Skipper, how was Holland?

Re: Hello to all!
Hi Jack
My dad is 81 and lives here in California as well, he was a US Army Honor Guard at The Nuremberg War Crimes Trials as well as inside the prison. He enlisted at age 17 and walked across Europe fighting on the front lines, he was awarded the "Bronze Star" and many other medals. He was in The Battle of the Bulge. Maybe you and he could meet sometime, he would love that. I posted his entire story. I am new here so trying to find my way around. Glad to meet you. Thank you for giving us our freedom. You are so appreciated!
Linda

Re: Hello to all!
Hello Linda,
A pleasure to meet you, where in California does your Dad live? Give him my best, and tell that young fella to take good care of himself. If we can not get together, get him over to the keyboard or next to it, and we'll peck out a conversation, I'll look forward to that.
Take care,

Holland was excelent Jack, I had a little thought for you, Bigfun and the other Dutchies of the forum. I mainly visited the Rotterdam area (where my own ancestors come from) and stayed there for a week. I have posted pictures of the Atlantik wall in my galery (bunkers) and I have also started a special Atlantic Wall thread. I will post more pics there today.

Re: Hello to all!
Hello Skip,
I'm glad you had a chance to travel a bit, thank you for thinking of me, I never had the chance to see Holland, some very pretty country from what I have seen of it. I just spent some time over at Catalina Island with friends, we caught some fish, ate some some lobster, I shot some clay pigeons off the stern of the boat. We all had a pretty good time, it's good to be out on the water.
I didn't know Scott's family was Dutch, he's a good egg that fella. How do I find the photo's you posted the pictures on?

Thanks Jack! I appreciate the kind words! Yes, I'm Dutch, my Father was born there. He lived thru the war as a young boy. He finds your stories, as I do, fascinating.
Thanks Jack.
