Hello, I'm kittensmummy.
No, that's not quite as daft as it sounds, honestly. My cats are convinced I'm Mummy, and who am I to argue!
I'm too young to have been around for WW2, but have done my time in the Forces, so have a working knowledge of Service life.
I've joined however to hopefully discover why my Mum's first husband was Mentioned in Despatches. He was Frederick CARNE, a Yeoman of Signals who served on HMS Jamica at one time. I do not have a Service Number, nor any other information, so this might not be an easy one to trace. He never spoke of the reason for the MiD. I am doing this out of personal curiosity, so will not ask my Mum about his Service No. etc, because I do not wish to bring back memories that are painful to her.
I did Google The London Gazette and search for Carne: MiD from Jan '39 - Dec '45, but was unable to see it.
Regards,
kittensmummy

Hi,
I've got a Persian who looks even grumpier, but I love the piccy, thank you! (The other 2 aren't so furry being shorthaired).

kittensmummy

Re: Hello, I'm kittensmummy.
Suzi Persian says that if she had to wear a melon on her head, she'd have done something drastic - to me!
Seriously though, any suggestions for finding out why Yeoman of Signals Carne, F (no Service No. available), was Mentioned In Despatches. No date/ship/action I'm afraid, just rank and name. If anyone can give me any leads I'll be delighted.
Regards,
kittensmummy

Kittensmummy, if you can't get an answer here, you might try an associated forum, ww2talk.com. There is a passle of Limeys there, just itching to help with things like this. Tell 'em Slipdigit sent ya.

Welcome aboard, we'll sure to try to help with anything.
Tried to google, and asked a few other people, they've came up with pretty much the same as your research so far.

Long live cats! Welcome aboard and good luck in your quest!
What Slip said is correct, there's a lot of cross-pollination with WW2Talk, and the Brits there are super!
Cheers!

Re: Hello, I'm kittensmummy.
Hello Everyone,
Oh Heck, now I am going to have to brush up on my schoolgirl Russian! I wanted a reason to go back to studying the language.
If I discover anything, then of course I will post it and let you all know.
Have a good weekend and take care out there!
Regards,
kittensmummy

Re: Hello, I'm kittensmummy.
Seems like the ship has had an active life during the war. She has rubbed against some mighty German ships.
HMS Jamaica (C44 - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia)
I am wondering in what context he was mentioned. Being in signals, his name could be included in all communications just as a signatory.
Here is also a link to the HMS Jamaica association. Don't know if you have tried them yet

Good luck

Re: Hello, I'm kittensmummy.
Thank you, I have emailed the contact name on the HMS Jamaica site in the hope that he or someone can come up with the information I am looking for. You never know, even though it was 60 years ago.
Best wishes,
kittensmummy
