Hyvaa Paivaa!
Thats finnish for "good day"
Is this the former worldwariidaybyday.com board? I used to post there a couple years ago.........
Anyway, I'll get my WW2 "fix" here from now on. Great board!
Just F.Y.I.: My grandfather was coastal artillery for the finnish army through the Continuation War and was one of three to survive the battle for Teikari Saari by swimming for his life through the Gulf of Finland. Brrrrrrrrrrrrrrr. He passed away in '92 and I'm sorry to say that I didnt get too many more details before he did. So I look for more about this but the details are few and far between.

Re: Hyvaa Paivaa!
It was October and I loved jogging in the forest early in the moring, going into a Sauna with beer on the charcoal, then go for a swim in a lake. I loved the relaxed atmosphere, no locks on the bikes, people saying hello , it was really relaxing. I visited a few cemeteries and spoke to a few veterans. The log cabins are really comfortable too. I remember eating a lot of Laka berries and I plucked many red berries in the forest , they tasted a bit like cranberries.

Re: Hyvaa Paivaa!
Thanks JC. I'm in the Eugene area.
I'm only Finnish by blood. I hope to make it there someday so I can meet the larger part of my family(I got lots there!). A few have come to visit me but I haven't returned the favor yet. It seems they're able to take months away from work each year to travel the world while I am lucky to get a week off to go fishing down the road. I envy their work ethic.

Re: Hyvaa Paivaa!
Hello DogRed and greetings from Finland. And you should definitely visit the country of your fathers. And when you do... Let us know, so we can have a WWII Forum-meet.
