Newbie Says "Hello"
Hi Everybody
Found this forum by accident while looking up the Comet Tank which had been featured on the History Channel, (Tank Rebuild/Restoration or similar I think it was).
I've been addicted to WWII since childhood, listening to my Grandfather retelling his exploits. And this is where I hope you guys can fill in some details.
My Grandfather served on submarines throughout the war as the Sonar Operator, he served on HMS Tuna which landed the "Cockershell Heros'" and was also responsible for a U-Boat kill (I did find the number once but escapes me now), my Grandfather also said he had had another U-Boat kill but I'm unsure if this was on the "Tuna".
I don't want to make this a long intro so I'll leave it there for now.
Looking forward to working with you guys and filling in some gaps.

Re: Newbie Says "Hello"
Capt. Flashard,
I would love to hear your grandfather's story pertaining to the U-644 sinking! My great-uncle (mother's father's brother) was a crewmember of the 644 and died at the age of 19 in the sinking. My grandfather was also in the German military, a survivor of WW2, and a prisoner of war in camps located in Tennessee and France (where he spent a total of 5 years). He has since passed away, but my mother still has some memorabilia (such as medals and photos) as well as many stories that I have unfortunately yet to get out of her! I currently own my great-uncle's military dagger (w/ Nazi emblems, ivory, tassles, etc.) as well as an album with many amazing photos of my grandfather throughout his life, including the military and imprisonment periods. Also, if anyone has any information pertaining to Hamm, Germany (WW2 related or otherwise) I would be interested in that, as well. My mom lived there until she was about 19 (I think she left in '76), and her family lived there for a long time before that.
If it weren't for a school assignment that I got a few weeks ago, I wouldn't have started questioning my mom about "what impact our family had on U.S. history." I've always been interested in/proud of my mom's roots, but I never realized how extensive and really amazing it actually is. Long story short (kind of), I'm very interested in any more stories that you may have!
