For the attention of Wessex Wyvern re: Seaforth Highlanders grave
Hello
I just wanted to say how very grateful I am for your offer of taking an upto date photo of my ganddad's grave for me. I shall really appreciate that. I actually don't have a photo so that would be fantastic.
I have recently contacted the Scottish Regiments, Museum in Liverpool, to ask them if they could find a photo of my granddad's Regiment with him on it for me, and they said that they will look to see if they can find one.
Please cross your fingers for me, as I would love to have a photo of him.
I am learning quite a bit from this forum and I am able to talk about the War with my hubby, with a little (I say a little) bit of knowledge. I am also finding it interesting looking at the History channel too, and most things pertaining to the war. Never thought I'd hear myself saying that.
Will let you know how things go.
Take care
Ginny

Oh WOW!!!!!!
I don't know what to say Thank you so much, you don't know what this means to me, but I guess you do! I feel so emotional, my poor granddad
Thank you from the bottom of my heart.
I shall print it off and send a copy to my dad, as well as obviously keeping a copy for me.
Please enjoy the rest of your evening and have a lovely week.
Bye for now

Re: For the attention of Wessex Wyvern re: Seaforth Highlanders grave
Hello Wessex Wyvern and all
I have finally been in contact with my uncle, who I have not seen or spoken to since I was 6 yrs old, I am now in my 40's. I had a brief chat about my grand dad, (the one that this grave belongs to), and learnt a little about him. Apparently my granddad had a blood condition which should have dictated that he was unfit for duty, and he had an irregular heart beat too. He went along to be enlisted and was told he was unfit, however, my grand dad lied and said that he had run all the way there and that was why his heart was beating so fast, and the army allowed him to join up. So, strictly speaking he shouldn't have been, but he wanted to volunteer and by doing so it cost him his life in the end. From all accounts my granddad was quite a "hard man", who lived in an area where you had to fight for survival, so to speak. Perhaps this is what helped keep him alive up until 1944. Also, most of his platoon, The Seaforth Highlanders were wiped out on the same day as him, and those that were lucky to have survived, went and paid my grandmother a visit out of respect for my grand dad, which gives me some comfort.
My uncle said that he visited his dads grave about 20 years ago and was pleased that I had an up to date picture, and said that this was a very kind thing for you to do.
I just wanted to share this with you because I now have contact with my family again and I am pleased to have learnt something about my grand dad.
Take care
Ginny
