Thats quite a shame. He must have had some interesting stories to tell .

Opps, I am sorry about your father, I didn't mean any offence by my post, it was more of a rethorical question.
Well you should feel very welcome here and we are privlaged to have you and to know that your grandfather although an SS soldier was still a soldier of Germany, who knows maybe he was a pleasant SS man, who had no choice but to join them, better to think that then that he was like all the SS men we read about.

Re: Guten Tag!
Welcome to the forum. I don't usually reply to this thread but what attracted my attention was your statement about Sgt. Rock. That comic character was mainstay of my comics reading time when I was a kid.
I'm sure you'll enjoy this forum.

Welcome, Kate! Always nice to have other women on the forum so I don't seem such an anomaly! They're a pretty good bunch of Rogues, though. I see they have welcomed you as warmly as they welcomed me.
Like you I've always been interested in WWII. In my case, because my Dad was with the Canadian Army and my Mother was a Londoner. Interesting that you mentioned the comic books as I'd not thought about them in years, but when I was a kid amongst the comic books were the military ones too.
I look forward to your postings.

 I smell better!!! Now that's a phrase I didn't expect - better than the opposite I suppose....
I'm probably able to spend a bit more time again, still have to finish one more assignment for my university class and that's done. The competitive process at work went well on the knowledge side and I lost out because I didn't have the experience. I'll be happy to be back here! I've come across some interesting bits while doing some research so shall be back by the weekend to post again.
Take Care and I apologize for hijacking this part of the welcome to you, Kate!

So is the cold any better? Weather here is cold and rainy. So much for warm May weather.

Joe I dont like Tiger tanks. They are typically German, big usually a blondish colour and many a time I have come down to the pool and found one parked on my poolside chair in the hotel with no driver, always at breakfast but leaves his tank on the chair. Dontcha just hate that.
Oh and welcome to the new female member.

Re: Guten Tag!
And what's wrong with the Matilda mark 1. Does all the things a Tiger can do, has tracks smallish gun, much better colour scheme and made in Britain, no dont answer that I think I just did. Panther? Stuka? Im seeing a pattern here. If you look upwards towards the Baltic from Berlin, Poland is just on your right hand side. No sorry welcome, I dont really do tanks and equipment dont like oil on my fingers, on my egg sandwich yes many years of getting handed them. But may see you in other threads.
