My Introduction
Hi all,
My name is Frieda Marie Patrick Davison (long story as to why so many!). Call me Frieda. On some forums, I go by "Bigamt" because I grew up at the foot of "Big A Mountain" in Southwest Virginia. However, I wanted to use my real name on this one because I'm on a research mission for a book I'm writing (more about that later) and am hoping some of you may be able to help.
I'm 57 years old and work at a university. While I've always been interested in history, I became more interested in military history in 2007/08 when I chaired an 40th anniversary committee for our university and as the culminating public event, we brought the traveling Vietnam Wall to our campus. It was an amazing 4 days - over 17,000 visitors. Through that process, I met lots and lots of local veterans (my husband says he has to stand in line at events in order to hug me!).
Anyway, there is a local memorial in our city (Spartanburg, SC) where there are listed the names of soldiers from this county who died in service from World War I to the present (639 names). The sad (and crazy) thing is that no one seems to know anything about these fellows. The new ones (Iraq and Afghanistan) still have family in the area but even the Vietnam sacrifices are being lost to memory.
SO, I decided to rectify that and have begun research for a book. I've been to St. Louis to the Personnel Center twice and have looked at everything they have that I was allowed to look at (only WWI and WWII). Korea and Vietnam have not been released to the public.
I've begun a research blog at: Duncan Park Memorials. It will tell you more about the project.
I have become so close to these young men - they feel like my little brothers! Anyway, I'm hoping that some of you may be able to help as I enter my next phase of research.
Will be away for a few days but will be back in touch to the forum next week.
I'm looking for similar sites for WWI, Korea and Vietnam if any of you can help with that.
Thank you.
Frieda

Re: My Introduction
Frieda ~ Welcome to this fine place. You will fit in quite well here as you are doing a fine thing in trying to chronicle the stories of your county's fallen!
I suggest you post your query in the Information Request section of the forum. It is likely to get more traffic there.
Cheers!
