Checking In
I am a newbie on this site but an old Marine from WWII. I served with the 2nd Bn, 9th Marines during the battles for Bougainville, Guam and Iwo Jima.
I am 85 years old and was discharged from the Bainbridge Naval Hospital on Dec. 23, 1945. My rank was Platoon Sergeant ( now called staff sergeant)
I was an Infantry Scout with the MOS 0321. Wounded once (Guam) decorated twice.
If anyone on this site is looking for information about the 3rd Marine Division and the 2nd Bn, 9th Marines, post a question and I will attempt to help you find an answer.

Re: Checking In
Welcome Mr. Kirby, it is a joy to make your acquaintance.
Thank you for going overseas and laboring to make my life better. I appreciate it.
If we can help you in any way with the forum, please let us know.
I've changed your user name color and your title. The veterans that visit our site are Blue.
Do you have your story posted elsewhere that I can link to? If not, I can create a thread for you in our WWII veterans area if you are interested in intertaining questions from the forum about your service. We have several good men who talk to us there and one was in your area, with the Army, SouthWestPacificVet, but Jack to us.

Re: Checking In
Welcome to the forum Larry, I salute your service and think its great that you have chosen to join this forum hopefully you can add to our knowledge and fill in the gaps so to speak.I know myself that I looked to my bookshelves when I saw we had a ww2 Leatherneck in our midst and found I had books on the Fighting fifth and the 28th Marines so like I said hopefully you can help me fill the gaps.
