Hi everybody,
My name is Thierry Cornet. My username is TeeCee. Just joined the forum and hope to brush my knowledge of WWII or share knowledge.
I'm a tour manager for a Hungarian company. the tour I manage is called Beyond Band of Brothers. It's a land based tour based on HBO's miniseries Band of brothers.
So, I might have some knowledge on the subject.
Well, nice to meet you all.

Re: New member
Hi JW. Thanks. It's nice of you to welcome me. It's good to be here. I think I'm taking a next step.
Let me write more about myself to better explain this.
My name is Thierry Cornet, 38 years old. I was born in Oostende in Belgium. Last summer I moved to Hungary to start a new life.
I quickly (I was lucky) found a job in Budapest. This company I work for was looking for a person able to speak 4 languages and has some experience in Tourism. I took the job. Our small company, called Procom Consulting, has 5 members of personnel. 3 Hungarians, an American and me, the Belgian. We all have have the same common interest: WWII.
We have a created a Tour called Beyond Band of Brothers. This land based tour follows the steps of the 101st Airborne Division, 506th PIR, 2 batalion, E-company in there European campaign during WWII.
This tour starts in Aldbourne, England, then goes to Normandy, Nijmegen in Holland, Bastogne and ends in Berchtesgaden in Germany. Of course, when guiding a tour I show and explain much more than just E-company. This is important to be able to explain WWII.
What makes our tour special is that everywhere we go, we meet with witnesses. Living people who were there during WWII. People who lived through occupation, who experienced battle, the Allied advance, etc. These people truly bring our tour to life. There stories are amazing.
We took it onourselves to bring there memories to life in a tour, because soon they will be gone.
I've been doing this job since Oktober 2008. Being a history buff, I've learned a great deal about this episode in our history. Since the day I have started this job, there hasn't been a day that went by without me reading about WWII. I think I know something but I also know I still have alot to learn.
This is why I'm here: TO LEARN and share my knowledge with people.
I hope I will find some interesting people here and maybe arouse the interest of some people for our tour.
Seeya,
Thierry

Re: New member
Welcome Thierry. I have been interested in WWII since I was a small child, but began studying it seriously at age 22. That was 30 years ago, and I believe I have only scratched the surface. Learning is a life-long adventure, so strap yourself in and enjoy the ride.

Howdy TC...what a great job you have reliving history, combining an occupation with a hobby, and getting paid for it! You must meet alot of interesting people on a daily basis.

Re: New member
Hi guys,
Thank you again for all your welcomes. At least here people react to a post.
Applevalleyjoe, yes I do meet very interesting people due to my work.
You know, you read and study about WWII from books or by visiting places, but the real nice and true stories are heard from the people who lived during that period. these witnesses learn you alot. Mostly, they are non military personnel, simple civilians who were at the wrong place in the wrong time. Their stories really stick to you.
Yes, maybe an idea for a topic.
Thierry

Re: New member
Bonjour Thierry,
I am also new, drawn by father's D-Day maps. He was a sapper in the Canadian Engineers at D-Day.
It was odd, as a child, that I got to lay the wreath at the Cenotaph at our little school in Northern Canada. I thought everybody's father went ashore on D-Day. If your tour company ever wants to do something with a Canadian connection, give me a shout.

John,
I changed your email address to take out the @ sign out, so you would less likely to to spam messages. Are you certain that you want you phone number visible to the whole world?

Re: New member
Hi John,
first of all, welcome to this site. Looking forward to talk about the subject with you. Also I would like to point out that my home town (Oostende in Belgium) was liberated by the Canadians. They are our heroes! Thanks for that. Maybe your father was their. If you can check this out, that would be good to know.
Concerning a Canadian tour, our company has given it some thought and there is a 'Canadian version' ready to be put to test. Of course this 'Canadian tour' needs to be run for a all Canadian group.
Thierry
