Air crash-CBI, Army nurse corp..looking for..
Looking for any details re: Kathryn McCarthy of Syracuse, NY. who died in military plane crash in India while serving with US Army Nurse Corp. I believe she was on a C-47 airlift from Kumming, China to Dinjan Military Base or Ledo field hospital with plane load of wounded and officers. Was told that this was the most infamous accident to occur in India during the war. Kathryn's family lived on Bellevue Ave. in Syracuse, NY during the war and Kathryn baby sat me. My family lived in a flat upstairs. Thanks!

Hi Warbirder, have you tried to get her record at the National Archives?

Re: Air crash-CBI, Army nurse corp..looking for..
I found the Missing Air Crew Report #15650, the a/c was a C-47 41-18554, the date 3 March 45. The flight left Dinian and the intended destination was Ledo. The cause listed is "attempting to land, made low turn and crashed". On board was a crew of 2 and 25 passengers, including Kathryn Lucille McCarthy, address, Bellevue Ave. I'll see if I can reduce the scan size so I can post the pages with the crew/passenger list.

Welcome to the forum, Warbirder. I suggest you make your post in the information request or geneological research section of the forum. You will get more eyes there.
Points headed your way MCoffee, as I am out of salutes.

Below is the first page of the MACR, and three pages with the crew/passenger list. A lot of nurses and a few officers - moving a medical unit maybe? The other pages are just repeats of the list in various forms, with no further info. There is apparently an accident report for this incident also, but I don't have direct access to it. You should be able to get if from AFHRA with the s/n and pilot's name.
