Re: What are your newest Militaria purchases II?
No problem Andy, the applications delays expired in 1945 .
By reading the leaflet closer I noticed it was written in the pure Socialist anti-capitalist style of the 1940-41 period. There is no anti Communist propaganda yet.
btw: this 1944 allied occupation bill was also in the same box.

Hi Skipper
It is my opinion that these three packets are post war reproductions.
The Font of the Luftwaffe packet, with the eagle, space between...in front of the word silver is not correct.
The Ostmedal font on both the front and reverse is not correct for war time packets.
I have not seen "Old English" style font on an EK2 packet before, that style of fold or a stencil of the EK placed on front of a war time packet.
Again, just my opinion.

Re: What are your newest Militaria purchases II?
The "6" in the "Rudolf Souval,Wien vii/62" on the L/W drivers badge pkt is the wrong shape too. Also the seam appears to be too close to the right hand side. Stewy

Also about the EK2 packet maker mark...
Walter Heinlein was an officer in the 2. Panzerdivision and winner of the DKIG.

Re: What are your newest Militaria purchases II?
Don't be sorry Stewy, I'm actually glad you expertised these. The seller is a friend and probably has no clue he has fakes and will certainly refund me (unless he wants to loose his friendship and reputation) . I'm just surprised people bother printing cheap paperwork .

Re: What are your newest Militaria purchases II?
Hi Skipper
If the Currency and Fine document came from the same place as the three packets...I would be highly suspicious of them as well.
Unfortunately, these items are out of my area of study and I cannot comment on their authenticity.
Best Regards, fischer

Re: What are your newest Militaria purchases II?
Hi Skipper, paperwork is not a specialty of mine and im thanking God for folks like Stewy, Fischer and Hucks.
Anyway, if your interested in getting original paper packets? please let me know and ill give you three dealers who I trust but and also have very good reputations and whom last I looked-had awards paper packets for sale. I know a 4th dealer who sells them but-the guy screwed me over on a huge deal we had "set in stone" but he decided to be greedy-so-ill never send any more business his way.
Anyway, if you want? those other sources? please send me a PM or email and ill gladly give you the info. I don't think the paper packets cost much? but theirs are good originals.
Take care--Carl.

Re: What are your newest Militaria purchases II?
Carl, some packets/boxes are rarer than the awards that they're for. Depending on the maker & can seem pricey when taken into context of what you're buying. Stewy

Re: What are your newest Militaria purchases II?
The rest is okay, three rotten eggs in a basket is enough for the day. Carl don't worry about other sources, I'm already convinced. I'll add my own 2 cents : check the word "Abzeigen" not only it needs a captital "A" , but it has a spelling mistake too...

Re: What are your newest Militaria purchases II?
Hi Stewy, Skipper,
Stewy, thanks for the extra info, I was unaware that some packets could be just as rare as some makers of some medals ;-)) Just proves I need to study up on paper collectables ;-))
Skipper, no prob/ but if you ever change your mind on that? just let me know ;-))

Re: What are your newest Militaria purchases II?
hello gents, i got this about a month ago ....and was very surprised and excited.....it's a peice of 1908 british webbing gear (one of two ammo pouches that would be worn together with the rest of the webbing gear) but you see, the colour it is dyed , inticates that after the First World War, it was taken out of storage / surplus and given to the "Black and Tans"
(the Black and Tans were one of two paramilitary forces employed by the Royal Irish Constabulary from 1920 to 1921, to suppress revolution in Ireland. Although it was established to target the IRA, it became notorious through its numerous attacks on the Irish civilian population.)
the fact that i was able to find this so close to home, and i know for a fact they operated in and around my town was exciting as it gives the peice a little "extra" bit of history.
.......it's just a guess, but it could have been taken during an ambush on the Tans just up the road! (i like to think so )

Re: What are your newest Militaria purchases II?
Hello
Sorry I could not finish this topic with you Guys....It seems after 4:00pm everyday I cannot get back on this server, it's very annoying.
I agree with what stewy stated...I just purchased an IAB packet set from a dealer for $185.00. The IAB is probably worth $100.00 which places the amount I purchased the packet for at $85.00.
The reason I broke it down this way is I would not have purchased that IAB if the packet did not come with it. To me, $85.00 for a small paper envelope is expensive.
IAB packets can sell for as high as $150.00 or more depending on the maker. Boxed IAB's can sometimes double the price of the badge without the box.
Best Regards, fischer

Re: What are your newest Militaria purchases II?
your conclusion about the Tüte made me drive a couple of miles to visit a a collector and firend who happens to be be the son of a Panzer Regiment soldier (Carl Evans knows him ) and he confirms what was metionned before. you'd expected me to be upset, but that's forgetting what I brought back from his place , not to mention the gorgeous wine we had together. I will post the traesures later. (it's 11 p.m. here)
