Battlefield 1942
I'm not sure where else to post this, so here it is.
Does anyone here play the BAttlefield 1942 computer game. If so, which battle do you think in the game most accurately represents the real deal? How? What weapons in the game come close to realistic?
I'll start: Mine is the battle of Kursk, because it is a massive battle, over lots of ground, with plenty of mobile armor and air support. The Weapon would be the STG 44 or the K98 rifle.
Have fun with this, if you know the game. If not, have a great day anyway!

Re: Battlefield 1942
I'm surprised no one has posted on this yet.
I played the game for a long while, and aren't playing it at the current moment but I personally think Midway was a good map for its high use of aircrafts and the feeling that if you were on the island you were trapped.
Weapon wise, I think they all resemble the real deal, probably not 100% accurate, I prefer iron scope (I think is what it's called) over it just zooming in a tiny bit and calling that the scope.

Re: Battlefield 1942
I would hardly call any battlefield 1942 game 'realistic'. If you want realism, go for Red Orchestra. Any game in which it takes 1 or 2 hits to destroy a tank is unrealistic.
The game is enjoyable from the MP perspective though.

Re: Battlefield 1942
Most of it was Accurate 'cept for the longest time the American, Russian's had Enfields :P
And speaking of which, I havn't played Bf1942 in like 4 years! If you want realism download the Final Hope mods.
Red Orchestra has increadible realism, but I had troubles with the connections and servers my self with the game, lost interest when I lagged a storm every game.e

Re: Battlefield 1942
I was reading a review on Amazon for Red Orchestra, and this guys said,

If you are looking for realism, go for this game. If you are just looking for arcade-style gameplay, go for BF1942.
|
Couldn't have put it better myself. Though I did find the review about Red Orchestra being 'too' realistic a bit strange. The guy complained about manually operating bolt-action rifles.
IMO, BF1942 is just a arcade-style version of RO.

Re: Battlefield 1942
RO makes you press the FIRE button a second time on Bolt Action guns in order to clear the chamber and allow the next bullet to slide into place. Most games do this automatically, preventing you from taking cover. This allows you to take a shot and duck back safely, then clear the bolt. Pretty realistic in that sense. So you can't reload or do the action as you go prone (pretty impossible IRL to do that, you'd fall flat on your face).
BF1942 is an arcade style play type of game. Graphics aren't as good and gameplay isn't as good IMHO.

Re: Battlefield 1942
I like the Battle of Britain being the Allied. I have shot down 31 German planes with the settings at their highest before I ran out of time. I usually get about 20, but was "hot" that day. I've gotten 29 since then, but not 31 again.
There's a trick to it, but I'm probably telling Noah about the flood. If anyone knows how to get more than that...please, do tell.

Re: Battlefield 1942
I still find it fun, though I don't think I will be playing it in a while.
Mind you, BF2 is much, much better.

Re: Battlefield 1942
Yeah. B. o B. is good. I get around 25 each time. I usually stay in the halftrack or AA gun at the factory. I know BF 1242 isn't the most realistic, red orchetra looks good, but my computer couldn't handle it.

Re: Battlefield 1942
Well let me put it this way...upgrade your computer! If you like BF1942 then you'll love RO!
Ps-I don't like BoB-cos I am rubbish at flying! I either parachute into the enemy territory and cause hell then get kicked off the server or man the .50 in one of the watchtowers near the factory

Re: Battlefield 1942
I love BF1942, especially el alamein just the size of it and if you want tank battles you can or if you want dogfights you can or if you want a sniper war you can, versatile map. as for realism ha, its justa fun game. watch this for non existant realism in BF1942, but hey it looks fun, I'll have to try it some time.

Re: Battlefield 1942
If you like bf1942, but would like more realism, may i suggest the Forgotten Hope-mod for it. It adds a lot of maps, vehicles and guns, makes it more realistic etc.
I hate normal bf1942, but i love the FH-mod.

It will give you some idea, but you have to try it to appreciate it.
Oh and do you guys play singleplayer or multiplayer?

Re: Battlefield 1942
Mainly Multiplayer, but my computer has been lagging badly recently so I have to make do with singleplayer.

Re: Battlefield 1942
I am an old hand at BF42, and LOVE the Forgotten Hope mod. FH pwns vanilla BF42 any day. Having said that, my clannies and I spent a couple years playing '42 before we lost interest, and its fun factor is quite high.
FH is the cream of the crop though. I love how the screen shakes when you're in a plane and fire the guns. IMO, the best map on FH was Kursk. I love being a tanker, and that map has plenty!
RO is a great game. It makes you slow down, and the cartoon characteristics of other games (COD4 included) can't be found here. I enjoy COD4, but bunny hopping while jumping and accurately firing a M203 grenade launcher seems a little funny to me.
